Where can I purchase the Orange striping for the 1976 vintage Argosy?

You are lucky because you can call Griffin RV in Oklahoma City, and they will order it from Airstream. They ordered mine for me and shipped it to me. It's a lot cheaper than you will get from most other places, including most on ebay that I've seen.

The Rub rail insert on Ebay is for the Motorhomes only. The trailers have a different size rub rail and the orange stuff is available from Airstream. Your local dealer can order it.

Search the forums on "orange beltline" as well as "beltline shrink" -- a few threads and sources do exist. Read the threads! Good info there.

I recall one that I'm not seeing right away about it shrinking. Be sure you don't stretch it as you insert it. Use silicone lube. Try using a sanding block on the backside if it seems a bit tight introducing into the aluminum extrusion. InlandAndy sez rivet the ends.

I sure like OasisRV -- good service over the phone!

The orange rub rail trim in 2 widths can be ordered from Out of Doors Mart in Kernersville, NC. Ben in parts is very helpful and will take an order over the phone. The toll free phone number is 866 636 2267. I have a 1978 Argosy minuet 6.7.

Screw cover

As an aside, I ordered a 50 foot roll of 1 inch "red" screw cover from RV Surplus to see if this was a substitute for the rub rail material. At $5.00 a roll, it is worth a look. I'll let you know the results when I see the stuff.

You are right about the shrinking. I suggest letting it stay on for a couple of weeks with a few inches "extra" on it before you revit it. Mine was not stretched at all, but it shrank in the hot Oklahoma sun and pulled out one of the revits. Some of the 1/2 inch actually did not hold its color and I am replacing it with new I got at Griffith RV in Oklahoma City. The original was not from an Airstream dealer and I am hoping this new will hold its color better.

Thumbs up Been there done that

Hello... We put in new Orange stripping we got in Feb 05.. (at the Sarasota Rally) and put it in our previous 75 Argosy... put it on in July 05 and it had faded quite a bit until we sold the Argosy in Feb 06.. and Juel is right about letting it stay without riveting it for a couple of weeks.. we did ours during the hot month of July and it had not shrunk ... My 76 Argo 20 has a lovely 1" baselins stripe in orange. The 1/2" midline stripe is entirely faded, cracked, and falling out in spots. It doesn't seem like the same material at all. It is concave rather than convex like the orange, and certainly now seems much more brittle. What was it originally? Get it at Griffith's?
BTW the original sticker on the trailer says it was sold by Brassfields on Oklahoma City, On route 66.

I remember Brassfield's and used to go there when I had my 67 Caravel. Tom, the owner of Griffith RV, is the son of one of the mechanics at Brassfield's. He's good with these old trailers. And honest!

Thanks for the tip, Juel. I'm getting the half inch striping from Griffith's. It's only 12 cents a foot, costing more to ship than to buy. Comes in 50 ft rolls.

See ya' on the road,
