Rub rail insert color?

I am confused as to the color of the rub rail insert. We were given a 1977 Argosy 26. (yes, the previous owner was going to take it to the dump). The
owner's manual for a 1976 came with it. By all appearances of the pictures on the front of the manual the rub rail is red. The word "Argosy" seems to
be a faded red as well. Is the insert actually red or orange?

My husband told me he was given an "old Argosy trailer". I thought he was
crazy taking it! After doing some research I think we may have a dandy on our hands and a am now excited about it.

We would like to restore this thing to as close to original as possible, and I
realize it will take some research, sweat equity and alot of time. Any help/
answers is appreciated!

They were both orange. In 78 they went to blue. The stuff mid way up the trailer is called "belt-line insert" and the stuff down at knee height is wider. but also Orange. For years neither was available but I believe it is now available from AS parts dealers - or you might try Inland RV in CA.

Let's have a polishing party: I'll supply the trailer and buffing supplies. BYOB (bring your own buffer)

You will have more luck getting this vinyl insert from an Airstream dealer than from the company in CA, in my opinion. I got my original insert from CA and it cost me over $100.00. My new insert came from Griffith RV in Oklahoma City, and it costs .12 a foot for a 50 ft roll. They ordered and shipped both sizes in a quanity to do the entire 24ft Argosy, for much less than I paid the first time. I have a 76, so I have the double vinyl around the midline with the wide brown stripe and then I have the large insert around the base of the trailer. Quite a lot of insert, so I was happy to find it at the sensible price. This picture was taken before the insert was replaced.
