Non Painted Argosy

I have located a 1977 28' rear twin center bath argosy travel trailer that looks to be all aluminum no paint can be seen anywhere on the outside. Did airstream make an argosy all aluminum and not paint it ?

The Argosy's generally used different grades of aluminum that didn't match and some even had steel end caps this is why they painted them.

An all aluminum (that matches) Argosy is a rare bird I.M.H.O.

ALL of the aero-shaped Argosy trailers have one-piece end caps. Most are galvanized steel but it's reported that some were made of fiberglass. No aluminum up there.

A number of people have stripped the paint from their Argosy to polish it up and have usually ended up with contrasting end-caps. I've seen photos of a couple that have been painted silver which is a nice look if done well and that's the color you want.

If the trailer you're looking at looks very good without paint, it should be fine that way. If you'd prefer the classic Argosy look, you can always have it painted.

Not that I'm aware of, but some clever PO could have done something creative with the end caps. I do know of several polished Argosies that have painted end caps. Some so well tinted they will fool you.

BigAl has a painted Airstream that fools most people passing by. You really must look closely to see that it's actually paint.

Thanks for all the input friends I went back and took a long look it had been striped and the end caps painted with a color that matched very good so I should look better before I leaped, I'm getting more informed as I learn about the history of airstrean

I saw one on a A/S wheeler dealers lot that he claimed came from the factory sans paint.

I didn't look at it close enough to form my opinion as to whether this was true.

I was once told by a Chrysler salesman that the K-car based Lebaron convertible he was trying to sell to a friend of mine was rear-wheel drive. I didn't believe him, either.
