New Millennium Argosy

Last summer I acquired my second Argosy. A 1979 Jackson Center built 30’ center bath rear twin with double panoramic windows (front & rear). I chose this model after determining that my ‘75 26’ would not suit our family’s needs.

In prep for our first trip last week, I made a few changes: removed the 3 door closet, added a center twin, added an new exterior window, beefed up the front gaucho, added a water filter system, replace the deep cycle 12v battery with 2 6v Lifelines and put down some temporary carpet tiles.

Along the way of making these changes and over the course of our trip it was clear that more extensive work would be required: several areas of the subfloor were rotted out, signs of frame deterioration, leaking grey water tank and significant water intrusion through both wheel wells.

The next phase of work will be in prep for our 2nd trip at the end of the year to the Florida Keys. Over the next 7 months I plan to do a shell off floor, axle & tank replacement, frame remediation and make a few other “minor” interior improvements. I hope to resist the urge to do more than is absolutely necessary.

My new axles are already delivered and a direct fit to the Argosy frame. For floor replacement, I plan to use Coosa. As a few others have done, I will also use Coosa to replace some of the interior framing....but that will be mostly in the next phase as my countdown clock is already ticking.

An important milestone: DW agrees to using Coosa.

I’m trying to remove larger components/assemblies as much as possible to make reinstalling them easier should I choose to reuse them. I was impressed at how easy the stove came out. Pretty sure I’m not going to reinstall though. Doesn’t seem worth its weight.Click image for larger version

Sweet ~ we purchased our first Argosy back in September. it is a 1988 29'. Will start a thread and post some pics later. We all but gutted the inside - just left the walls up, but as its coming back together and in its final 1/3 renovation stage its looking pretty good. We even painted her. Lots of $$ into her that we really didn't realize we were going to spend when we started this venture. We went from buying her for a rental on our property to renovating to travel and rent our home out to selling our home and travelling full time in her. Take off date 6/26/19 ~ approaching quickly.

Would love to see pics as you go along with your renovation.

I don’t think I have seen any threads for the 2nd generation of Argosy trailers produced in the 80s. That would be a nice addition to the knowledge base.

It’s amazing how much time can be lost on our projects when “life happens”. About a week after my last post and after removing 90% of the interior, I received an unexpected curveball. I’ve spent the last 3 months in a job search which is now coming to an end - the good news. The bad news - I will be busy with a new job transition.

Congrats on the new job. I feel ya on the lost time. I have to travel for my job so every week traveling seem like a lost week. Then I spend the entire weekend working on the "Love Shack". On the plus side when ever I order parts they tend to be waiting for me to get home. Some times it's like Christmas and I don't even know whats in the box.

Who said an in-progress partially gutted trailer couldn’t be useful!?!

It was perfect for my sons lacrosse team in between tournament games (rainy all day) and saved us the cost of a hotel room.Click image for larger version
