To continue a previous thread on whether or not a china replacement toilet will fit in in our 24" Argosy, we did it! We bought a Sealand Traveler Lite low profile (with the extra spray nozzle) and it was a straight forward surgical procedure to make the toilet fit into the small storage compartment, and then figure out how to make the storage door fit back on so you can lift the toilet lid all the way so it will stay up. After removing the old toilet, and the padded storage compartment door, the new toilet was placed on the mounting hole properly oriented as far back as it would go until it touched the the lower lip of the compartment. A mark was made on either side of the toilet cap with a ruler to guide the cutting.
A coping saw was used to cut a peep hole to see where the plumbing was located, and a pencil was also inserted to probe the depth of the pipe inside the compartment.
Luckily the pipe was towards the back wall, and out of the way. In the finished cut you can see the intact pipe inside the opening.
Now you can see the toilet set back in place.
The padded compartment door was too thick to re-attach it and allow the toilet lid to open properly. But luckily, the padding was held in place with 4 screws, and once removed,
the door could be reattached properly without the padding. The protruding screws on the bare door from the hinges and latch were replaced with rivets. Here is the closed door, without padding.
We will recover the door with fabric to match the rest of the camper.
