Minuet Front Window Rock Guards

I "chickened-out" and had my dealer modify the rock guard to fit my Minuet. The starting point was a standard three-piece rock guard assembly. Both of the wing windows are standardized between the Minuet and standard line coaches so that part of the guard didn't require any modification. The center section was where the modification was necessary - - it was cut down nearly 8" to fit the dimensions of the minuet. The photo below is of the completed assembly from the curbside:

This photo illustrates the narrowed center section - - it is just under 8" narrower than it was when it began life:

This view illustrates that attaching hardware (center of coach) for the wing window rock guards. In this installation, the wing window guards are fixed with a hinge and set screw arrangement that allow them to be swung open or removed for cleaning:

Watch the wind! Those side wings of the rock guard are awkward to hold and are just like sails when you lift them off. I removed the first one on the lee side of the trailer without incident. When I lifted off the one on the windward side, the wind caught me unprepared and I did a really fancy dance to get it across the concrete and down on the soft grass.

Nice!!!!

Hey Kevin - That looks very nice. You have everything coming along!! Would you mind sharing the cost of the whole shebang from purchase of rock guards to final install? You don't have to give an exact amount if you don't want to, just a good estimate would be great. If we ever have extra to spare, I would like to add those, but will probibly have to travel to Idaho (closer) and would like to see if they come close to the same figure in cost. Can't wait to see more. Later, Leigh

Minuet Front Window Rock Guards

Greetings Leigh!

The cost for the rock guard assembly was $275 (a bargain due to the fact that the center section had been damaged in shipment). The cost for modifying and installing the assembly was approximately $150.00. Given the conditions involved, I am very happy with the cost as well as the result.

Kevin

You might have already mentioned this, but, I can't find the post. Where can you order these rockguards from? I want to install them myself, and just need the supplier info.

Minuet Front Window Rock Guards

Greetings!

The three-piece rock guard assembly is an Airstream standard part and should be available from any authorized Airstream trailer dealer as well as the authorized repair centers. If your trailer isn't a Minuet, you also will likely have the choice of a one-piece wrap-around rock guard as well - - as I believe each are currently available alternatives.

Something to be prepared for, however, is that these rock guards are likely to be a "truck freight" item so the cost of shipping may be nearly as much if not more costly than the part itself. By shipping the wing window guards and the center section separately, my guard assembly was just able to make it under the size guidelines for packages with UPS. It is my understanding that the one-piece wrap-around guard is a "truck freight" only item.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

Thanks for the info.
Has anyone tried simply tracing the windows on paper, bringing the pattern to a local plastics shop, and making them themselves? The bends can be done fairly easily with a heat gun.

I do not have any rock guards for my trailer and i admit to being worried near sick about my tires picking up a rock and pitching one at the windows or getting one from another vehicle or some such.

Furthermore i have yet to encounter another 20' Argosy in Oregon. Granted i have only been at it one season so far but since aquiring my trailer i have been more observant of trailers and still nothing.

Van,

My wife and I have owned our '78 Minuet for a few years now and live near Eugene. As you can see I've responded numerous times to this thread as our Argosy came with the rock guards and receipts.

What part of the state are you located in?

The wife and i are up in Hillsboro. In fact the wife is from Eugene/Springfield. Her folks are the ones that got us into Airstream/Argosy rv-ing.

If you see a 24ish foot Land Yacht, early to mid 70s model being pulled by a restored 1955 green Ford C60, that would be her folks. Hehe, he gets a lot of comments about the truck.
