Mattress replacement

Initially when we purchased our 26' Argosy, I knew that their would be some problems with repair or replacement on such an old trailer. When the better half said she would not sleep on those 1976 mattresses, I should have pointed to the couch; However, I disposed of them promptly. Now I wish that I had them cleaned as I have had much difficulty in finding a mattress that measures 32"X75". None of the major mattress companies offer this size. I have looked at some of the foam mattresses and I don't care for them. Any help or advice will cherished.

There are many companies that will make custom size mattresses just take a look in your local yellow pages, you might also search the web for custom mattresses.

I purchased two corner twin mattresses for our trailer when I built the twin frames. I wish that I had waited because I don't care for how the mattresses sleep. We have the tempur-pedic mattress in our house and I'm considering using it in the trailer during our vacation if I can figure out a way to make it fit; it sleeps just wonderful. If it were affordable I would buy another one or two (for twin beds) just for the camper. I would even trim it to fit if necessary. I'm still thinking about how to do this; after all it has to go before the House Ways and Means Committee first.

Our factory mattress is very hard. I purchased a memory foam topper and trimmed it to fit and it is much more comfortable now. I got ours from the Memory Foam Factory based on some other posts. I have read that Camping World has some that work well too.

Here's a link to several matteress resources...I haven't used any of them because we don't have full-time beds, but know of some folks who have and are happy.

Replacement mattresses should be as close as the Yellow Pages for your closest metropolitan area. When I needed new mattresses after purchasing my '64 Overlander, I consulted the Yellow Pages and found Lebeda Mattress Factory (you will finder similar companies in most larger metropolitan areas). I was able to purchase mattresses custom manufactured to the size needed for my Overlander by paying for the nearest standard size plus a $75.00 charge for customization. The beauty of these custom mattresses is that you can choose the firmness and style that you desire, and the company then makes up the mattress to your specifications. I was so well satisfied with the mattresses that they made for my Airstream that I now have the same model mattress set in the master bedroom of my home.

Your local Sam's Club has memory foam 2" toppers with silky white cotton covers that make a marvelous improvement in the AS bed. We were so impressed with the comfort that we went back and purchased a king size for our bed at home. The Queen was $100 and King was about $25 more. We had to trim ours for the trailer too. If I had to do it again, I'd do my measurements of the trailer bed and do the trimming outside. By the way, if you have an electric knife for slicing meats, they work great for slicing through foam. Just watch out for your fingers and toes!
