Knicks and Rust

I just aquired a 76 minuet, 20'. Currently, I do not have ample amounts of cash to put back into her. There are some chips in the paint, mainly on the front, and some rust around where the end caps meet, not a lot but some.
Is there a special qucik fix to these? If I plan on having the whole think painted in the future, is there any problems with sanding down the rusted areas and priming them with a similiar color?
I just don't want to cause any future damage, seeing how this is the first camper I have ever owned.
Thanks in advance!!!!

As long as you are going to eventually paint it I would do a good job of prepping it. The caps are galvanized so once you start sanding you will end up with a lot of bare steel. Primer is porous and the steel will rust so I would just use some cheap spray cans. It will only take 2 or 3 cans and will be easy to strip when you are ready to do it right.
