Hooked!!!

My wife and I finaly got our Argosy last week and couldn't be more happy. We had been looking a our nieghbors 76 Argosy 24 for the last month or so and after trying to get him down ( he thought it is worth $2500) we happend to find a 76 Argosy 26 in much better condition for $2400. This one we knew had been camped in in the last 2 years. we got it cleaned up last week and went camping in it last weekend. So now comes the fun part of getting it all fixed up! I will be tearing out the carpet and installing laminate flooring, caulking all the seams with Sikaflex 721, installing new window and door gaskets, repacking the bearings and fixing the breaks to start with. the floor is in good shape ( even in battery box) and all appliances work (need to check furnace for recall). Just wondering if there is anything else that I should do right away? I will post some pictures when I figure out how. we like to boondock and the holding capacity is not verry large. Is there anyone who boondocks with a 76 argosy 26? how do you do it?

Not a 26', but we have a 20'. You'll want to check the axles. Read Andy's article here. There are a lot of other things (safety wise) you should check before you start taking any long trips: brakes, tires, wheel bearings, break-away switch - these things are critical to your safety and to those with who you share the road. Also, if you haven't done so already, get a good weight distributing hitch with sway control. There are dozens of threads here on the forums about these issues, so grab a cup of coffee and start reading!

Something I almost forgot... sanitize the fresh water system before you use it. There are threads on the forums about that as well.

sounds fun

Welcome and congratulations on your "new" AS. Sounds like a great find. Be sure to check out all of the water lines. Get on the roof and check all of the cracks and crevices and vent seals. By that age they are usually shot and need replacing. Check the top of the bathroom vent and make sure the cap is in good shape. Make sure to seal around where the radio antenna came through the skin, if it had one. Ours had a leak there and sent water in under the front gaucho. A PITA to find!!! Luckily, our Argosy, Minuet has the aluminum floors. Most of all, get out there camping and have fun!

I finaly got some pictures, now if I can upload them! The first two are before the new flooring and the second two....well after the the new flooring. I am in the process of caulking the seams with Sikaflex and my wife is making new curtins. I still need to replace the seals on the windows and doors. they should get done in the next couple of weeks. we really love this camper. We have named it " The Happy Camper".

Howdy and welcome to airforums,com!

Say, that new flooring not only lightened up the look of your TT, but also took about 20 or 30 years off its age!

Keep it up, and let us know what you do with it.

Curtins

Well we finally go our curtains made and put up.

I refinished the bathroom doors because the vinyl was peeling off.

The more we do to this camper the more we love it.

Looks great! How did you refinish the doors? Did you just peel off the vinyl & clean up the wood underneath? It really warms up the bathroom.
