HELP! VALUE? on a '77 Argosy Rear door. SUPERIOR CONDITION!

I am new to this whole Argosy, travel trailer thing. My next door neighbor is in his late 80's and has a 77 Argosy travel trailer in SUPERIOR condition that he bought brand new in 77. He is considering selling it but doesn't know where to start. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the thing may be worth. He has it in immaculate condition. He is very proud of his trailer and I am highly impressed with the condition he has kept it in. No rust, everything works and looks almost new inside and out!! If anyone could give me an idea of what he may be able to get for it, please let me know. I was considering putting it on Craigslist for him, but I want him to be able to get whats it's worth and not have someone rip him off. Also, I tried looking them up to get some information on them, I believe there was only 10 models made in 77, and this is the one w/the REAR door. Is that rare? Just want to have all my facts straight.
Please advise.

Thanks!!!

First, welcome to the forum. Like everything else used, prices are determined by condition, and supply and demand. While Argosys don't quite bring the price of an Airstream, they are still in demand. I would suggest you check EBAY and the classified section here to get an idea of asking prices for such trailers.

Without seeing the trailer, and knowing the size (the smaller ones usually sell faster and bring a better price), it would be very difficult to give an accurate estimate of what it would bring, but judging from what you have desicribed, I would guess somewhere in the $7500 to $8500 price range, but again, that is a guess based on limited knowledge of the market, and even more limited knowledge of the trailer.

I would start at $7,000. Since it is a one owner and in very good shape. Do you know if it has been stored inside or out.
The 24' is a popular model and rear door makes it one of the rare ones.
He can always come down in price, but when you start low you are there.

Thanks for the quick replies!!! He has always kept it under a carport. I guess that's better than completely outside. He had no idea what he would sell it for so your advice is much appreciated!!!

OK, I did some searching, and it looks like your neighbor's 77 Argosy is a 24' judging from your discription of the rear door floor plan. That is a desirable size, but not as desirable as the smaller units.....a minor difference IMHO.

Welcome!
Why not take and post some pics for us. You will probably need them for an ad anyway, this way the forum can give a more accurate opinion.

If its still available, I'm interested. I've been looking for a rear door model with a caring single owner (as I would probably travel and work on it alone). I live in Atlanta and want to travel to Canada frequently with my two little chihuahuas while my husband works.

Maria,

As I mentioned..it's my neighbors trailer and he is considering selling it. I do not have any photos or know what he wants for it or when he will want to put it up for sale. I just know he is conidering it because he and his wife are in their 80's and have only used it once in the past 2 years. It is a very nice looking trailer though. He wasnt sure what the trailer was worth. I will probably speak to him about it at some point and see where he stands with it. I will then post here if it's for sale and the asking price along with pics. :-)

Thanks again everyone.

I found this thread shortly before we went to pick up a trailer in PA which I suspect is this same owner I just bought from. The man was heartbroken to have to sell (he's 88 and his wife can no longer camp) so it was a very emotional purchase. It's hard to be happy for yourself when your seller is so sad. We held hands for a long time; getting old is so difficult on so many levels but then having to give up your 'baby'...sigh. They are a very nice family and I will never forget them. We made sure to get pics which I plan on displaying in the trailer. Thank you Marti & Anna Mae, your trailer is a dream come true for us.
