Help identifying wires on 76 26' Argosy

I'm trying to figure out a couple loose wires. A blue and a black wire.

I have the tail lights and clearance lights working with the TV and the water pump is working.

There is a larger blue for the TV to battery. But then the loose smaller gauge blue one. There is a red one and it goes to the break away switch.

The blue has a cut connector from the PO. The black I had labeled brake with a ? on it. Originally thought the black was from the break away switch but the gauge is to small (the switch is connected to a larger gauge and different color).

They do not seem to be hot with a battery connected or the TV connected.

Any suggestions for the blue and black. I'm at a loss.

Does your trailer have reverse lights? Mine doesn't, and on my trailer harness, the reverse wire is black. It just has its end capped off and is dangling on its own. If you don't have reverse lights, one of those unused wires may be for that.

Yes, It has reverse lights and they are working. It's the upper right, two pole thingy in the picture and you are correct it is black.

There is another black one. For some reason, I labeled it, "Brakes ??", along time ago but with the question marks I think I was just guessing.

Thanks for your reply.

Have you identified the charge line from the TV? Do either of the wires read continuity to the 7 pin plug?

The 7 pin set of wires coming into the trailer are all right there and accounted for. Battery, ground, left, right, reverse, running lights, brake control.

Honestly, I did not check for continuity but I tested for voltage while connected to the TV, nothing. I tried to power up those wires. I tested continuity to ground but none.

I have tested the yellow wire at the wire nut for voltage from brake controller and it is there. I have not confirmed its going to the brakes at the wheels.

The item I never checked for operation is the refrigerator on 12v/propane. But I believe the power comes from the fuse box near the converter.

They look like they are original and at one time connected.

Thanks for the replies!

You mentioned the red wire goes TO the breakaway switch, but what color is the wire coming back FROM the breakaway switch. On my trailer, I have a 3 wire junction that connects the input from the brake controller and the input from the breakaway switch to the output wire that goes to the actual brakes. It is a combination of two yellows and a blue (but I know wire colors may not always be he same).

Hello, I have a 1977 27 ft Overlander. I'm not sure if the Argosy is wired the same. I can imagine it being different. however here are a couple of wiring diagrams that may help. Good luck and Happy trails! HT

I need to check on that. There are (2) wires to the breakaway switch, red and yellow. I'm assuming the yellow is connected to the brakes somewhere in the belly. The unknown wires are black and blue.

I need to start over. I going to start with the brake wiring. 1st by connecting the breakaway switch wires together and test for voltage. Maybe?

Thank you for the diagrams. I have been Googling and looking at the wiring diagrams. The wires to the exterior lights are all working, meaning tail lights, turn, stop, reverse, even the entry lights work.

I was hoping to get our Argosy ready as we prepaid for a week at KOA San Diego. I got pretty close to getting it ready but failed. We will be borrowing a friends rig for the trip.

It was not just the couple wires. I just replaced the axles...I have yet to check the brakes. We have no curtains, they are supposed to be here in July. I need to spend a few hours on the battery box venting. Testing the fridge on propane....

Thanks for everyone's replies. I'm not sure how well the internet works there but I will be back at it in a week.

Buy some cheap bath towels for temporary curtains. An AGM battery doesn't need a vent.

The blue on mine is for the brakes.

Help identifying wires on 76 26' Argosy

If you tie the two wires from the break away switch together you will get nothing. One wire from the switch is connected to a +12 volt source, usually not or heavily fused. The other wire is connected to the brake wiring somewhere or should be.
A$ used black for positive and white for negative in their 12volt systems. That might be a clue.

If you do not have a power tongue jack the extra wires could be for that. I can't look at mine at the moment but I remember that the 7 way cable on my '77 Argosy attaches to a fuse box under the front eat and every wire is fused except the trailer brakes.

LOL! I should have been more clear. I just wanted to take the Breakaway switch out of the equation, +12v source wire to the wire to the brake. 12v may show up in one of the wires??? I'm going to take my time testing and documenting.

I came back early from KOA San Diego. Great time, great for the kids. I only saw 3 AS, but the SOB trailers WOW! Amazing! ......back at it with the Argosy.

No, I do not have a power jack. From the diagrams, power for the jack comes from the TV and trailer battery wires. If one of those wires go to the jack...I need to find the other end. I was not able to locate the jack end of the wire. I will look again. It's my mission to figure this out this weekend.

It could be one of the house circuits. My 79 has a blue house circuit wire. Can't remember everything it powered but radio, a fan and a few lights came off it.

I believe I got it figured out.

1. My breakaway stays open. I need to replace it with a new one.
2. The (2)yellows in the picture. (1)7 pin harness and (1) to the brakes with wire nut connection.
3. Black in question goes to the breakaway switch. Tied now to the (2)yellows.
4. The blue is a mystery wire. Maybe to the power jack but i can not locate other end.

What really helped me out was the thread, Breakaway switch wiring.

TG Twinkie posted in there with his wisdom, detailed voltage readings for the breakaway switch and related wires.

Thanks to all who have replied.

TG twinkie if I ever have a chance to meet you, I would gladly buy you a drink. Thank you.
