help: how to remove old Suburban furnace

Can anyone tell me how to remove an old Suburban furnace from
a '79 Argosy Minuet? I've pulled every screw I can, can't reach the piping or wiring so that must have been done before sliding it into the space.
Was it installed before the cabinet was built? Hard to believe that's what
was done.
Help.

If you have removed the two screws that are inside the furnace enclosure that go from the guts to the floor then there will be two more screws in the middle of the intake and exhaust on the outside of the trailer. You also need to remove the electrical connector which also locks the guts in.

Yes, at least in some cases (my '75 Argosy24, for instance) they definitely installed the furnace and assembled the cabinets around it. If they're still alive, the designers and line workers who did that to my trailer may have felt a twinge of pain at the force of the curses I hurled at them when I discovered this.

i had to drill the cabinete rivets,then just put screws back in,but did have to move shelf above unit

On mine, I removed the kitchen cabinet side panel by the entry door, four rivets and some screws, exposing the side of the heater. The rest was easy.

Did you remove the long screw that is behind the outside vent plate? Remove the plate and look for it on the top pipe in the center. It holds the plate behind the outer plate to the furnace and must be removed to take the furnace out.

And yes Argosy's and Airstreams had their furnaces put in first, then the cabinets were built around them. Some are very, very difficult to remove.

I just took mine out of our 66. I pulled off the outside vent plate and it slid out. Disconnect the gas line and electric and you are done.

By the way does anyone know off hand what size metal cap I would use to plug that gas line?

When I removed the vent plate, I found 2 long screws, unlike my 81 Excella II, which had 1 long screw. Argosys are weird, Huh!

I left my furnace out, and had to redo the inside of the vent plate to make it watertight..Seems fine so far. Used aluminum flashing and vulkem to seal it behind the vent holes. The flex sealed the floor to wall seam.

Argosy is an old Greek word for "never the same".

But I think Suburban may have changed their vent screw situation, so it may not be entirely Argosy's fault. But then....

Despite the fact that we bought the new version of our old furnace, the new one was almost two inches lower in overall height, which meant building it up higher to be able to use the original intake and exhaust holes in the outer shell.
