Bigger Fish to Fry had caused me to put my battery box rebuild project on the back burner. Since the original post, I've had to completely replumb with PEX, install a new converter, and install new floor tile. In the meantime I added new weatherstrip around the battery box door to keep out unwanted moisture. I'll probably get back to rebuilding the battery box in time for a spring camping trip.
Concerning ventilation: YES! Take a good look at how close your electrical components (converter, fuses, etc.) are in relation to the battery. Plenty of opportunities for a spark to ignite some vapors from a battery. Ignore good ventilation and we'll be holding a memorial service for your Argie.
