Found an Argosy I can't identify

Today I found an Argosy sitting unloved in a field. It looks to be about 20ft, but is dual axels with the door in the rear street side. The A/C unit is on the roof in the front. I have a 24ft Argosy, so I know this unit cannot be more than 20 ft long. It is strange looking sitting on the dual axels. Looks like there is more wheel than trailer. Does anyone know about a model like this?

What you have found is the exceedingly rare Argosy 22 rear entry trailer. Bed is in the front, and a dinette is on the curbside, with the galley on the streetside. Does it look like this?

Yes, it does; however, it looks smaller and the A/C unit is on the very front of the roof. The man who lives next door says the guy doesn't want to sell it, but I may try to find him myself and see what I can do. The paint on the one I found is pretty good. What year would this be?

They were only produced for the 1975 and 76 model years. You may possibly find an occasional one titled as a 1974 or 1977, depending on different states' titling laws. The rear entry was also only offered in the 22 foot model. It is a dual axle unit, the smallest twin axle Argosy offered, special orders notwithstanding. It will be placarded on the sides, near the front of the coach, if it has not been repainted. There are a couple of differences in the weights, this model is slightly heavier than a conventionally configured Argosy 22, and the tongue weight is slightly lower. The roof air unit mounted in the forward vent location may have been an attempt to increase the tongue weight, so it would have less tendency to sway. Also, since most of the "living" was done in the forward part of the trailer, the installer may have wanted the air closer to where the people were.

Found an Argosy I can't identify

The Argosy Rear Door models were offered in either 22-foot or 24-foot lengths depepending upon model year. The 24-foot as shown in the brochure scan found below, was offered in 1977:

The 22-foot as shown in the brochure scan found below, was offered in 1975-1976:

I have always been intrigued by these coaches, particularly the 24-foot model. I also suspect that the literature for the main line may be similar to the Minuet series -- these models may also have begun production at the end of the preceeding model year (prior to their appearance in the sales literature) and may have continued into the year following their disappearance from the sales literature.

the 24 i looked at was way cool - but badly dented and beyong our "acceptable project" threshhold. It was a side dinette - front twins set up and would be a perfect conversion to a front queen/couch set up. I would love to own one of these models - just not bashed and water logged....

Ok, I guess it must be a 22ft; however, this unit looks like an egg with wheels. If it wasn't so far away I would go back with my tape to measure. This Argosy looks to be in excellent shape "outside". No telling how long it's been sitting on this lot, but exterior damage is slight. We were at the lake looking for land to park "our" Argosy. Now all we can think about is another Argosy. By the way, we didn't buy any land but we would have taken the trailer home if we could have.

You could use your land search to talk to the owner of the Argosy. Ask him when he got his land, who he got it from, etc. You never know, you may wind up with his lot, and the trailer...
