Argosy's are certainly welcomed in the GA unit. There were several at the last rally among the almost 90 trailers and AIRSTREAM motorhomes in attendance.

If it is an Airstream branded or made by Airstream, it is welcome. I think that applies throughout the WBCCI as well.

I was referring to the MOHO issue and one plan was to make a Thor MH and put an AS name on it. jim

Since the roofs of current Airstreams are now painted white (to better reflect the heat I am told by the factory) does that then mean that the painted Argosy's are cooler in the summer than our aluminum ones??

Yes. Our Argosy 20 was measurably cooler than our "neighbor's" Globetrotter at a rally with rally power. Both were pretty much stock, no extra fans, all windows open, and the white painted Argosy was nearly 10 degrees cooler.

I wonder if they'll ever bring the Argosy brand back...and use it for trailers made of fiberglass, to be towed by today's lighter & more fuel efficient cars.

There's quite a few manufacturers of small fiberglass trailers these days enticing buyers, and given that a new Argosy trailer line could become the entry level for regular Airstreams...I think it would be an excellent way to (eventually) give virgin trailer owners a healthy dose of Aluminitice !!!

They did.

It was called the "Landyacht" or better known as the "squarestream".

Few things are as funny as snobbery among Airstream owners. Were these the best ever aero aluminum trailers built, it would be one thing. But they weren't, they were simply the best marketed. Which probably accounts for the "problem" of painted trailers. Ha! The sizzle not the steak.

I'd jump on a nice Argosy were it otherwise ideal for my use. Especially at a good price. There are some flat beautiful painted trailers to be found on this site. The advantage of aluminum can be said to be increased with the proper coating.

Hey Bill : A very good point...& you're right, a person wouldn't get Aluminitis from a fiberglass trailer...he'd get Fibertrail'alga !!

Of course, were a fiberglass trailer ever made by Airstream...to have the same profile (curves, low center of gravity, etc..) as an Airstream...it would be a natural situation for a person to develop a case of Aluma'envy & then eventually to trade up to a regular Airstream, when an actual case of Aluminitis develops !!

And here is one of them. I was certainly tempted to go look at it, and I still might:

Many that could not afford the extra cost of the paint job, settled for one of the unpainted, bare models.

Hahahaha! I like it. Something tells me that your comment could instigate a class squirmish though.

I established the 2011-12 official cult of conduct and hierarchy for Airstreaming social exclusivity. Section 2.12(a) states that "Argosy owners are always cooler than WBCCI members." 
