Contemporizing 1976 Argosy D - opinions please

One of the things that bugged me about the original Argosy was the lack of attention to details. Every time you opened a door or peeked behind or under something, it seemed unsightly: unfinished plywood, jagged metal or protruding screws.



No more musty corners. Everything “factory new” or better.

The winter work shed became a summer workspace with the addition of some screened openings all around.



It’s usually very cool in there, what with the fresh breeze off Lake Erie.

But yesterday, no breeze. Stuffy. So I clicked on the new LG split air for the first time.

WONDERFUL. So quiet that I often had to walk over to the machine to see if it was still blowin’ cool.

Post #176 showed how we hung the LG Art Cool split air blower unit on the wall between the bath and mid ship bedroom.

I covered the access opening that we had to cut to route the A/C supply lines through the pocket door wall with a brushed aluminum panel, glued on with PL Premium.



Finished, it now looks as if were always a part of the LG unit.



It’s really nice to have the workspace cooled now, like a reward for all the effort.

I like it... THIS is what the new Sports should look like... I still think they look like warmed over SOB's.

Clean, simple.... what more could you want (minus the cool LG and diesel options of cour$e!)

Have you thought about fabric options yet? Curtains? I'm curious on how you will treat the front wrap window.

I’d like to go with a new roller blind I saw at IKEA called Tupplar.

They come in three nice colours – khaki, midnight blue and white – and have a blackout lining.

I plan to use them on all the windows, including the centre one in the front wrap around. I will try to use the existing rails for the wrap around glass portion and see if Ching Mei can make me those curtain panels from left over Tupplar material.

The only other fabric in the trailer is on the two gauchos, front and mid-ships. They will be upholstered in a GM Oldsmobile Cadillac specified woolen called Dorchester Grey.

Who is the manufacturer of the cooktop? I don't think I've ever heard of or seen a diesel fueled cooktop. Is this specifically designed for RV use? Very cool.

No.

Because I am using the LG fridge in the house it was easier to glue together this exact-size Styrofoam mock-up than to clear out and reload the fridge and wait for my neighbor to help me carry the LG in and out of the trailer.

Was it hard to remove the counter top on your unit? I would like to keep my cabinet, but put a new counter on it, and add the stainless on the back like you did. I have seen this on many newer airstreams. I also like your smaller sink.

It’s been almost 2 years since I tore the trailer apart so I don’t remember exactly how easy the counter would be to take off. Very easy, I suspect.

The back splash isn’t stainless. It’s aluminum. How it was done is shown in the thread, back a ways.

I bought my SPRINTER tow vehicle at K&M in Grand Rapids.

The wiring harness - serving the thermostat and fan coil units, the dimmer for the rear cabin pot lamps and the bed reading light - will be covered over with a panel of .040 aluminum.



Painted, the panel will become the headboard for the mid ship lounge-sleeper.

The instrument panel will be on the left as you enter the trailer.



I have all the parts collected now and will soon clad the wall and design, build and mount the panel.

On the panel:

Micro Pulse System Monitor
Water pump switch
Rocker switches for all three fan-coil heating units
Rocker switches for
Yard light
Door light
Back light for fuel gauge
Diesel fuel gauge
AC voltmeter
DC voltmeter
On’Off toggle for Webasto heater.

I’ve finished the headboard wall at the mid ship lounge. Ching Mei came down from Toronto last weekend and helped me paint everything inside. That was the third and final coat.

We are installing the furniture DavidsonOverlander made for the front lounge now. Photos later.

Today Phil and I lined the entire underbelly space with two alternating layers of 2” closed cell insulation rated at R10. Two layers or 4” makes R20 I suppose.



We used made in Canada Owens Corning Celfortec and glued it in place with PL 300 foam adhesive.

I have several giant rolls of reflective insulation that I got for next to nothing so we’ll add a layer of that as we attach the new belly skins.

This week we received all the window and door gasket, door rubber, window arm seal and rubrail inserts from Oasis in Tucson, Arizona so that’s another thing we’ll be doing soon.



The window frames are all painted and ready for the new fuzzy stuff but re-reading posts here I think I may have ordered only half of what it will take.

I didn’t realize that you need a strip down EACH SIDE of the arm.

That's perhaps the downside of ordering by phone.
