Unhappy Black water tank repair on Minuet

After putting water into the black water tank to check condition, I look outside and see what could be a lawn sprinkler under the trailer. Sure enough, the valve leaks like a sieve, but worse, the tank is cracked where the pipe for the dump enters the tank. The tank appears to be polyethylene rather than fiberglass. So, two questions:

1. Can the tank be repaired and, if so, how? Some kind of plastic weld? Fiberglass wrap? (Since the crack is in the same place that must clamp to the exit pipe, I wonder about a wrap.) If no repair, where to get a replace for a '79 6 Metre Minuet?

2. Is there a source for aluminum to make large pieces for the belly pan? (PO took off 5 feet of belly pan that I need to replace. Made getting at the valves easy, but made a mess of the belly pan.)

Hello Argonaut,

I had to replace the black tank on my Minuet a couple of years ago. Andy at Inland RV has some black tanks, but for mine he had to have one customi$ed. I seem to recall that it cost around $500, including shipping.

Mine started as a small leaky crack, but when I was replacing my tank it just crumbled as I removed it.

I have found two possible sources for a tank built to specs - both about $425 - $450 including S&H. We are down to the fittings and what I have to do to install.

What are your sources?

I know about:

http://www.all-rite.com/customtanks.html
http://www.accutanks.com/ronco_holding.htm
http://www.incaplastics.com/
http://www.ronco-plastics.com

Incidentally we talked about black tank repair way back in episode 5 on theVAP. But I think you've figured out what you need to do already.

I am having All-Rite build the tank to spec. I also got a quote from RV Parts Outlet http://www.rvpartsoutlet.com but went with the All Rite folks because they would place the necessary fittings. I couldn't come up with a stock tank that I felt could be adapted for the configuration in the Minuet.
