The front hole is what we use to align everything. The bottom of the main frame rail is also an alignment point...

The rear hole is usually off. A quality step bit will elongate the hole in the mounting plate in about 15 seconds. The mounting plate is much softer than the mounting bracket on the axle. We blast that hole after the axle is jacked into place and the front bolt is put into place.
Frank.

Thanks for the great informative post.

Your welcome.

Thank you and your staff for making ordering axles so easy. Everything has fit like it was made for it.

Ace.

It can come with either one, that you specify.

Normally the 5 lugs are for 10 inch brakes.

When some people upgrade to the 12 inch brakes, then the wheels also must be changed to have the 6 lugs, to match the drums.

The cost does not change when upgrading.

Andy

Sounds good! I would like to keep my 5 lug wheels and hubcaps. I will be ordering through Frank very soon.

Ace.

Also be sure to tell Frank the ball park weight that you plan on carrying.

You can have a 3000, 3200 or a 3500 pound axle.

All depends on how you like to load your Airstream.

Andy

Would it be a good idea to put a couple spot welds on each side of each mounting bracket, connecting it to the main rail, instead of the plate?

I have my Dexters ready for mounting, and love the plywood template idea, particularly since my mounting plates are new, and without cutouts.

Be extremely careful then, of where and especially how you mount those axles, in a plate with no cutouts.

Saw in this post that InLand Rv had a sale on axles.. Did not think I needed new axles right away ,, but once fully loaded with full water tank my tires seem to hide themselves deep in the fender wells.

I called Inland Rv and gave them my numbers and model and such,.. Took about a week and they showed up in fine shape.. One of the best tie down job to 2 pallets with protection wrap around each hub and the bolt kits taped to one axle. Real well!

So now to find the time between corn planting, and the rest of the farm jobs to get my Overlander off the ground and stop being a low rider..

Thanks to all the folks from Inland Rv.. I can tell by the way the axles were shipped they truly care about what we are doing out in the real world and take pride in there part..

Thanks to the people here,, and InLand Rv..

Boy! That's a lot different from the way my axles arrived. Also ordered from Inland.
All I got was two bare axles, banded together. No pallet; no crating;
Scratch marks on the axle tubes from material handling equipment.
No owners manual, no spare parts list. Nothing.
Contacted Inland. All they said was. "Call Axis"

Axis had a surprised response. But we're very apologetic.

All depends on who the shipper is.

But it reflects badly on the the product and the vendor. Just like I am your customer. You are theirs. IMHO

Never did receive a parts list for things such as bearings, seals etc.

Funny how you get an exploded view of a blender purchased at Wal Mart for 20 bucks. Along with it, comes a parts break down.

The axles I bought cost a lot more than 20 bucks.

I totally agree.

Some of us care, some of us kick it to the curb, and caring to some, is talking about the Red Cross.

Our caring society, of what might be left, is deteriorating all over the place.
