Greetings from Houston. Have to say your thread to capture VIN #'s has been great to follow. As others have said, thanks again for getting it started. This is only my 2nd post (1st was to introduce my Minuet 6.0 aka:"The Palace") and it is to introduce my 2nd Argosy. Please add VIN 28T4V0689 aka "The Donor". A buddy and I are working to bring back a 1947 25ft Spartan and we got the Argosy as a possible source of aluminum and bathroom fixtures. Turns out we aren't going to use any of it after all. It is in pretty rough shape - instead of being called a "barn find" it probably has spent the last several years as a barn. All the skin is pretty good but the interior is beyond salvage. But, the pano windows are there and in great shape! We are thinking of selling the windows and giving the coach for free... kind of like a twofer.
Anyway, wanted to say thanks for maintaining the register. I had an old MG and was in an international regester. It was interesting to follow the list as it continued to grow.
Hope to see you down the road, and yes, you probably do have the perfect model Argosy. I found two rear door 24's that were sold before I could get to see them; I finally found a Minuet and have been nothing but happy since (just a little cramped).
Happy travels

Hey Gang. I purchased my 1974 Argosy 22 on Saturday. It's my first travel trailer, so I have a lot to learn, starting with finding my trailer's VIN. I can't seem to locate a number that fits the format that you all are giving. Can anyone help me out?

if your outside your trailer facing it the vin is located on the right side under the fresh water intake door.

There is a small plate there, but the numbers don't seem to match up with what I would think they should look like. Which one is the VIN?

Probably the one beginning with S.
Look on the top curbside of the tongue and see if there's a matching number there. If so, that's your VIN. You're right that it doesn't match the pattern, it looks like there's no designation for the floorplan, or it's just an aberrant VIN. Also, was it made in CA? S was Airstream designator for one of the CA factories, but that would normally be later in the VIN.

The S2240548 is your VIN. Not sure what's up with the numbers below it but I'm sure someone here will tell us soon! There are a couple in the VIN database that don't look like the rest...

There are no numbers on the tongue. I'm not sure where it was made either.

Of what I can make of some charts I found online
I believe it to be,
S 2 24 0548
S = California
2 = ????
24 = Length
0548 = sequential production model

My thinking would be S 22 4 0548. It's a 22 footer.

You may be correct
S= California
22= length
4= model year
0548= serial no.
That makes sense

So, I need the manual for the 1974 Argosy trailers? Even though it clearly says it was built in 73?

This is a quote from Overlander64:
"Argosy and Airstream model years switched in June of each year. Your Argosy's production date in August 1974 would identify it as a model year 1975 coach as the 1975 coaches would have begun production prior to July 1, 1974."
If you apply that to your VIN plate then you have a 1974 since it was made late in the year.

Here's a link as to where you can buy one if no one has one.

First time poster, and a newbie, with an Argosy 24, VIN # 24D3V168. Happy to be here--you guys are the greatest for sharing info and techniques. I've spent hours and hours reading and researching. So far I've only pulled out what doesn't work--the messy, un-gratifying stage. Ready to install a new Duotherm AC and Aqua Magic toilet, which is a step in the right direction. Thanks for all the good posts on Airforums!
