I’m not sure if you are still keeping the list but we just became proud owners of a Argosy. She’s a ‘75 26 ft twin bunk, rear bath model (w/dinette). I’ll try to get the code right:

California manufactured Argosy trailers

Something else to consider in the database -- there are a few first generation Argosy travel trailers out there with an S in the plant of manufacture rather than the typical V . . . while it hasn't been confirmed by any "in-the-know" sources, it is believed that at least a few of the first generation Argosy travel trailers were built in the Cerritos California assembly plant resulting in the S designation rather than the V for Versailles, Ohio.

Kevin

P.S.: I am surprised that none of the "S" plant manufactured Argosy trailers have replied . . . there have been at least two found by Forums members in the past year.
I have 2 Argosy trailers. A 1977 28' center bath and a 1978 6.0 meter (20') Minuet.

The 28' was manufactured 6/77 with s/n 28B7-S5426 and the VIN tag says MFD BY ARSTREAM, INC. with an "S" in the s/n for the Cerritos California assembly plant. It also has original blue vinyl trim instead of orange.

The Minuet was manufactured 8/77 with s/n 20D8V1188, but, wasn't sold until '78 so was titled as that year. (I have the original paperwork). The VIN tag says MFD. BY ARGOSY MFG. CO. with a "V" for the Versailles factory (pronounced Ver-sales by those who live there).

I checked with the historian of VAC and WBCCI and he said that he has seen documentation in the Airstream archives that about 1,500 Argosy's were made at the Cerritos California assembly plant. Speculation as why they were made there is: 1. California had more stringent laws concerning plumbing, gas piping and electrical, 2. In the later Beatrice years (late 70's) finances were tight and it was cheaper to make them in California than to ship them across the country.

Please add mine to the database.

I hope this helps

On a 20' the "D" should indicate a dinette.

Argosy trailer lengths were normally even numbers in 2' increments measured from ball to back of bumper. Many are listed wrong based on body length not including the tongue and bumper. Check the first 2 digits of the Vintag. That should be the correct length. Mine are 20 and 28 corresponding to 20' and 28'.

If your 27 is a motor home that size could be correct. I don't know motor home sizes and those may be entirely different.

1979 Argosy Center Bath Twin 30'

We bought this trailer new in 1979 and traveled extensively with our four daughters for a number of years and then stored the trailer when they no longer wanted to travel with us and we couldn't leave them home alone. (about 14 years). My wife and I spent about 3 years restoring (new appliances, new floors, new curtains, toilet, hot water tank, and every thing else except the Armstrong A/C, which still works perfectly. We had planned all along to save the trailer for retirement which we did and have spent the last seven winters in Florida with it, and last summer spent two months and 9500 miles zig-zagging across the US! We use a Hensley Arrow and tow with our 2005 Nissan Armada, which hasn't missed a beat (so far).
Ran across this web site while searching info on Argosys and would like to add my trailer's VIN to your database.
VIN: 30A9V3176

P.S. Our daughters have informed us that we cannot sell the Argosy. It will become a family heirloom. Lots of wonderful memories which I hope will continue for a couple more generations.

I did some searching online after your original post on a 27' and found a couple of 27' Argosy's. All were 1979's and at least one had Minuet badges which makes a fourth size Minuet. Your data sheet is 1978 so they were most likely only made the last 2 years of Argosy production and probably a pretty rare variation.
