Argosy touch up paint options?
somewhere a long time ago, someone meantioned a Krylon? spray paint that was close to factory colors for a '77? I need to touch up a few spots as it's a couple of years before a new paint job......also just noticed the first chip and rust on the front endcap, about the size of a nickel...how would I go about touching that up, just sand and spray it?
Thanks
Dan

On my '74, the upper part is an off white. I have found that Krylon Dover White gloss is a very good match. It used to be available at Wally World, but no longer. Go to ACE or another large store which handles Krylon and have them order it for you, if they don't have it in stock.
On the end cap chip, you might try sanding it down to metal, priming it with Krylon primer, and then spraying the final color over that. Do a large enough area so you can blend it in with the original paint, if possible. Realize that once the end cap paint starts to go, it is a losing battle, best to take it all off and re do the entire cap.

If it is beige, you might try tremclad recreational white. I painted my front cap and it matched real well.

Lets face it, any touch up color is an experiment. The original paint may have been re done at some time, it may have faded, chalked, or, especially with Argosy's even come out of the factory with different paints. What we know about the Argosy is how consistently inconsistent they were built.... grin.
A rattle can investment or two may be necessary to get something you like. Since they are under $5 you won't be out much.

so true, my 22' minuet has been resprayed with who knows what, but is close to the original. I have found a Ford color in the Dupli Color paint works. I need to do some touch up about twice a year, but it holds up well for the most part

My 75 Argosy 26 is an ivory color down to the rubrail and a dark brown metallic below that. the Dupont code for the ivory color is 44534-A. The metallic brown is 44721-AM. My local NAPA store was able to get me these in spray cans a few years ago. Krylon Ivory Gloss is the closest I've found on the shelf at Wal-mart or Ace Hardware.
