Argosy Owners please help with DOOR LIGHT

This is about the DOOR LIGHT, that little Buck Rogers looking hood over the doorway.

Were does it get itís power? Is there a switch?

We canít figure this out and the original Ownerís Manual has 120v circuit diagrams but nothing for 12v.

Does any one have an EXTERIOR light like shown in these photos of a contemporary Safari?

This is shown in my Manual but is not on my trailer. Only in longer models than 24í?

Thanks for your help.

I have a 78 24ft Argosy. It does not have a light like in your picture. It has a light over the door with a switch on the inside to the left of the door as you face it from the inside. The switch says "step". the outside light is just a little eyebrown thingy with a 12V bulb in it. I replaced the original plastic lense myself as it had yellowed. I'll try to find a picture of it if I can.

Sergei, you can get that complete light fixture from almost any place that has truck supplies. I have one on our Overlander, if they ask you what it is for, tell them it is a back up light for a school bus.

Mine has sort of warped and I'm afraid to travel with it in place for fear it will fly away while driving down the road. Did you cut your own? Where did you get the plastic to use?

Bernie, you could get a clear piece of plexiglass to use, just cut it to fit. You are talking about the plastic lens? The cover on the door lights is (or should be) aluminum, and not warp.

Juel:

Thanks for the information. It helps me figure out what is happening here.

The inside switch to the left of my door operated a single fixture on the front ceiling, near to the regular 3-way ceiling lamp that was also there.

A PO must have installed this, using the switch and disconnecting the run to the outside, above-the-door lamp.

We couldnít get current to the door lamp.

Mystery perhaps solved.

I want to keep the door-top Buck Rogers lamp so we will run a new supply line to it.

There have been no answers to part two of my question: Does any Argosy owner out there have an EXTERIOR lamp on the side of their trailer, as shown in the photos of a current Safari model?

Itís the 5Ē or 6Ē round lamp shown.

It is illustrated in the Owners Manual but is not on my trailer.

If anyone has one, please tell me how it is switched.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Sergei

(How was the bulb changed in that over the door fixture? Do you remove the 3 screws and lift off the hood? A PO probably caulked mine to the roof. We couldn't change the bulb without breaking the caulking bead.)

I have both...

Hi Sergei! Yes, we have both the above door light and the side light (mounted to the right - towards the front of the trailer - of the door opening). Both are switched on by using two different rocker switches (one above the other) right next to the door opening (striker side) inside the trailer.

Hope this helps!
Marc

I have a 78 Argosy 24, with both the over head light AND the same setup as Marc Describes, Dual switches one above the other on the striker side .. the exterior "spotlight" I like to call it is between the door and the Front Streetside window.. the power is derived through the dual switch, although i have not pulled the panels yet to fully investigate routing, i will post pics as soon as i get the camera and computer to recognize one another, and can resize the pics to fit the website..

if ya PM me with an email addy i can email pics faster then i can resize them, even though i am on a crappy dial up connection.

Billy P.

P.S.... Can't wait to see pics of your mini on the flatbed sprinter.

Hello down there Billy.

It will be a while yet but things are slowly moving ahead.

Iíve sketched out a plan for the Sprinter/Mini in my head and, between installing new Ipex plumbing and starting into the hydronic heating system this week, I may find time to get my flat bed plans down on paper as well.

Keep looking here. Itís coming along, looking better every day.

Door light

For info, the light above the door is availible from your airstream dealer W/lens.
The round light is a backup light and any good NAPA will have it.
I have both on my 24' Argosy and they are new. They are switched just inside the door on mine with two switch's.
