Argosy Awning Question
I purchased an awning from a man. I had to remove it from a
1972 Airstrean Sovereign 31 ft. Gave $500.00 for the entire
thing - all hardware and Blue/White colored "oil-cloth" of
some type - it isn't ordinary canvas. My question - who is
the maker of this hardware....it is not a ZipDee from any markings.
There are springs on both ends of the "tube". I attached an
example photo....I hope it posted.

Thanks from another Argosy restorer as well. All that remained legible on my fabric-less aluminum frame was a phone #. Called it, got the current Carefree Co, and then pretty much hit a dead end, so that manual will really help.
Also, is there a recommended fabric to use if all you have is the frame? Do I need to test the spring on the roller somehow?

You can get the fabric from any CareFree dealer, you just need to specify dimensions and colors. If the awning has no fabric, it could be dangerous to hit the release button on the end of the tube. Take the roller tube off the arms, remove the rear end of the tube, slide the old dregs of fabric off the tube, slide the new fabric on, and replace the end cap. Place the tube back on the trailer. Then you can safely test the spring.

That could be an A&E Awning. That's what is on my Argy. Dometic bought A&E and is supplying those bent arms again (last I knew). Just throwing that out there, I could be wrong.

I did a Google search for a local awning company
who uses Sunbrella fabric (figuring it was high quality).
There is a local business who can make a new
patio awning cloth (of Sunbrella fabric) for between
$150 - $225. Do your measurements very carefully!!!

You should remove both end caps to do the grease job.
The springs on both ends should be greased - alot of grease.
A word of caution about releasing things(anything) under
spring tension should be noted! Testing the springs...well...
an examination when you re-grease will be first. With them
out of the tube, you may want to "cock" the spings about 2-3
turns for a bench type test. A holding device other than the human
hand is wise. Fully extended (between 10 -14 full revolutions)
those buggers are strong and can hurt a person if suddenly released.

We just bought a very inexpensive (future expensive) 1977 Argosy 24. The entire awning assembly is gone exept the track. It sure is hot here in Texas. A little shade on the side of this thing could help cool it too. I sure hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Paul
