Argosy & Sealand installation

Just wanted to pass some info on. I had read here that several people had replaced their Aqua Magic with a Sealand Traveler Lite Low Profile, so i ordered one. Turns out that on the '73 20footer, the height of the space at the rear of the head was under 13" . The Sealand was 14" tall, so either the floor would have to be cut and moved down, or the ABS surround(notch & hidden backrest compartment) would have to be cut. Due to the angle of the surround, the floor would have to go down about 4", so i opted to cut the surround instead of move the floor.
I took off the backrest door, cut the ABS, then had to disassemble the Sealand so i could mount the base first, then re-attach the bowl(it's easy, just one large ss clamp). I did this because i was unable to get the toilet under the shelf, and i wanted to keep the shelf intact and not cut it. I think it actually came out ok, and was much easier than re-configuring the floor.

In my research, i could not find a single toilet that was under 14" tall, even though the Aqua Magic V specs show that it is 12.9".....i measuerd one in the store, it is 14" . Anyway, for those that have smaller Agrosy's, keep this in mind.Pic's to follow.......

Greetings MotorSeven-

Great information to share with your fellow forum members. Sorry to hear you had more of a project than you wanted but does sound like you found a way around it. You may want to post a few photos so that if a fellow Argosy owner gets into it they will have a visual to help them. This is what this great forum is all about, the sharing of information and making friends.

Thank you for the great post!

Thanks! This is great information. I have a 74 Argosy. I have / had the same color scheme...."beautiful' stripped back rest behind the toilet and yellow trim throughout. My yellow trim basically crumbled. Removed it all and currently replacing. I'm still trying to post pics. Not very successful. Keep us posted. Thanks!

Thanks for the post. My Sealand is being shipped as we speak - hope it fits! If not, My mods shouldn't be too tough. Good luck with the project.

Looking at your photo of the shower gave me an idea.

I'm not thrilled with the wet bath in my '72 GT. I wonder if I could pull out the current sink/shower head arrangement and put in a shower pan in the rear curbside corner. Hmmm. I might have to move my convertor and possibly the battery. Anyone seen or done this?

Are you replacing the pan or refinishing it? Post follow-up photos!

Dave

I can't put the padded door back on so if anyone needs one let me know, it is in great shape.

Dave, no i am just cleaning everything with a combo of Krud Kutter, bleach, soft scrub and 600 grit sandpaper. The pan will go back in and then it all gets a coating of fiberglass wax.

Alumibum, let me know if you have any left over trim, i may need a few feet........
