Argosy 26' or 24' size/value?

Hello all- I have been looking at Argosy trailers for about six months now and about to buy one in next month. I have found two 26 foot ones, both projects, and a really nice 24 that looks to need nothing (it was used actively up until a month ago). Needs for camper are for wife and I and two small kids 8/10. Is the 24 really that much smaller on inside? Sellers are offering the nearly mint 24 for $3900, one 26 (small to moderate project) I can get locally for about $2700, the other 26 has good bones (frame/skin/floor/new wheels and tires) but owner removed most interior appliances and they need to be all reinstalled/restored. that one I can get for free (trading a boat for it plus receiving some cash for my boat). It is also the farthest away, of course (about 8-10 hours).

Thoughts anyone as to useful size differences among the 2 models? Do these sound like ballpark prices or can I do better. I really like the styling and features of the Argosy line.

Thanks

Rick

The First Generation Argosys in the 24 and 26 foot varieties have very similar floorplans. The biggest difference is the additional room in the living area. Most of the additional two feet of length in th 26 is in the living area. The bathroom and center bedroom area on the two coaches are nearly identical in size. The additional area in the living room can be handy for meals, but the 24 should have sufficient room for four adults without over-crowding. Sleeping accommodations aren't likely to be much different between 24 and 26 unless you are comparing one coach with a "double" floorplan and one with a "twin" floorplan.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

P.S.: You might find that the rear entrance Argosy 24 might be more versatile than either the 24 or 26 with the more standard floorplans. The rear entrance floorplans were only offered for a few years toward the end of the first generation's model run so they are comparatively rare.

Thanks Kevin. I'm leaning towards the boat trade/Argosy 26. I like the slightly larger dining area, and owner already removed carpet so I was able to look at floor. It would essentially be a swap and I would have him pay some cash, boat is worth a little more. I could use that money towards finishing out the Argosy.

My philosophy has always been to buy the best one you can find for the money. I would definitely lean toward the 24' for $3,900. Also since it has been used recently, there are bound to be fewer surprises in terms of what does not work. For example, when I bought my Tradewind, the furnace did not work cuz he did not camp in cold weather and the fridge did not work on propane cuz he always had electric shore power.

Buy what you want though. You are driving the boat.

Good luck, Dan

Thanks. I made an agreement on the 26, should have it home in about two weeks.
