Argosy 20 footers are they rare? (trailers that is)

I looked for a long time to acquire a 20 footer and this winter I was able to pick one up. I thought they they must be pretty rare but then maybe I just missed the ones that came up for sale. I have owned a 24 and 22 foot in the past but was always on the hunt for a 20. Whats the general feeling of the Argosy community are they hard to come by. I did not see many sales from the past or many currently for sale searching the internet do far . Here are a couple pictures Its a 1972. She needs some work but over all in pretty good shape. I have been watching the prices on the 21 foot Globetrotters and WOW they bring a ton of money. They say the smaller they are the more they are worth so by that standard the little Argosys should be pretty valuable right ?

I have a '73 Argosy 20ft also - it is in the middle of a complete overhaul. I recall seeing at least 1 other 20 footer on here as well.

They are not as common as the longer models, but they are not "rare". Unless, of course, you put it up for sale on that evil auction site where everything is rare...

I must admit that I haven't ever seen a 20' Argosy before, so I would consider it unique but not rare. Interesting, looking forward to see what you do with it.

Cheers
Tony

I have a 20' 1981 Excella II. It is narrow (7') and I've never seen another one listed online. The 20'er's seem to be fairly rare (or unique).

Just try to find a 6-Metre Minuet with Al floor. I had almost given up when the listing appeared while I was on line reading the monthly news letter. :-) Sometimes you gotta act fast, really fast.

I have a 78 Argosy Minuet 6.7, 22 foot with aluminium floor made in Cerritos CA. It's the only one I've seen from California. I think it's uniquely rare.

I have a 73 Argosy 20 built in the Airstream factory in Versailles, OH. I don't think AS built that many of them, so the older ones are now becoming rare enough. It took me 2 years to find one anywhere on the west coast.

BTW, I had no need for TWO gaucho couches, so I chopped the one in front in half, turned the cut halves 90 deg to face each other, and built a table between them to make a 4 person dinette....convertible into a bed if the need ever arises.

US that's a great use of the second goucho. Why reinvent a seating area. I will keep that in mind for ours.

I didn't know that Argosy 20s were rare.

It seems like every time I look in the driveway, I see one.

As far as being worth a lot of money…The 8000 people that drive by my house and knock on the door, all seem to think that it's worth $500.

Mine has been restored, almost everything is new, but it needs a paint job still.

I have half a mind to put a for sale sign on it…$ 150,000

We saw one for sale in Hamilton Ontario about 15 years ago. It was nice and they wanted $3,000. I believe. Would have bought it but we really wanted a dual axle Airstream.

You have a nice little trailer!

I love the little ones, but I found my plain old 1972 26' in Texas for a price no one could resist . Too many people see it sitting at our business property and want to buy it. I haven't even painted it yet. It is absolutely not for sale; I tell them. I love it so much. You will have sooo much fun with that trailer.

Hey Sprouty,
I just acquired a '72 20' Argosy. It's been gutted but it has most of the original interior pieces with it. There is new insulation and new subfloor but they did nothing with plumbing and electrical and chucked tanks without putting in new ones. I know I will want to put in pex and a grey water tank....I have been looking for schematics for both plumbing and electrical but have yet to find anything? Have you ever run across either?

Schematics

I have a ‘77 20’ Argosy and I haven’t found any schematics that weren’t in an owners manual. But if you have questions I may be able to help some. I don’t know how much alike they are but I’m here to help where ever I can.

Rare?

No!

Desirable?

Yes!

The market trend towards smaller campers is also pretty much true with ANY vintage camper trailer brand today. The smaller/shorter/lighter the camper the more desirable and therefore valuable they are.

With vehicle offerings (Tow Vehicle) from the OEM manufacturer's becoming smaller, more fuel efficient, Boomer's no longer the target market for the RV industry and the trend nationally towards smaller more efficient forms of living it only makes sense that the 20 foot Argosy trailers are becoming more and more desirable and therefore more Valuable.

Vintage Airstream/Argosy trailers are not the only brand benefiting from this real market trend towards smaller well designed campers. All one has to do is go and look at the new offerings from the RV industry to see that overall smaller, lighter, cheaper more efficient designed campers are the future of the RV industry.

I believe that when the Boomer's die off a 31 foot Airstream/Argosy trailer will be a "Dinosaur" due to the size and tow vehicle needs that nobody will want em therefore value wise just might need to be "Free to Good Home" for their heirs to get rid of it!
