Are all single axle 20' Argosys Minuets?

Been looking for an Argosy between 20 and 24 feet. I've seen a lot of photos online. I'm wondering if the single axle 20 footers are all minuets? I'm looking for a smaller lighter trailer, and am curious to see if there is an easy way to spot the minuets from the "regular" Argosys?

Thanks for the help.

No, they are not all Minuets. Regular Argosy 20, 22, and 24 foot trailers are not Minuets. They are, among other things, standard Airstream width, and Minuets are narrower.

Thanks. Wasn't quite sure. Have read that some of the 20 foot Minuets have aluminum floors, which has a certain appeal when it comes to not needing to fix rotten parts, although the same issues with rusted supports exists. Just wasn't sure if there were any visual clues to be able to spot a Minuet from an exterior shot, like only having one axle. Seems I need to look at each one.

The front and rear center window is narrower on the Minuets. Something like 35 or 36" vs. over 42" on the regular Argosy. Once you have seen the normal rear window on an Airstream or Argosy of the 70's you will note anything with a smaller window. They will be the Minuets. Takes a bit of practice, but I can now spot them at almost any distance.

Are all single axle 20' Argosys Minuets?

Greetings RhinoWW!

The Argosy Minuets were only produced during the 1977, 1978, and 1979 model years. It is apparent that the 6.0 Metre Minuets were produced all three years and it appears that the 6.7 Metre Minuets were also available all three years. It seems as though the 7.3 Metre Minuets were produced only later in the model run as it seems that those reported have been either 1978 or 1979 Models. Most of the 6.0 Metre models have the composite aluminum floors, some of the 6.7 Metre models have composite aluminum floors, and it seems that most (possibly all) 7.3 Metre models had plywood subfloors.

Good luck with your search!

Kevin

P.S.: Most Minuets will have side badging . . . 1977 and 1978 models usually have a cast aluminum badge mounted in the side trim. The 1979 models I am less sure of as I believe that they may have had decal badges rather than the cast aluminum. Another bit of information that may help is that a Minuet with original paint is likely to retain its decals announcing its length in metres (European spelling of the measurement was utilized by the factory) . . . but to accommodate US registration (a guess on my part), they were issued VINs using the measurement in feet.

Well the 20 foot single axle I looked at today was made in 72 and was clearly not a minuet. Wooden floor with rot by the door, window and bathroom. Glad it had the wood floor or it would have his the rusting frame. Shame I passed up on it. Quite the demand for this size though. Seller said he was getting a ton of calls and got one from San Francisco while I was with him. Looked like a decent deal on Craigslist. Not so much in person.

Will keep on looking.

Now that you are an educated consumer, you will better know what to ask next time.

Quite true, but asking the right questions is no guarantee the seller will answer truthfully. DAMHIK.

Trust but verify... pictures pictures pictures, but nothing like inspecting in person. Some we looked at looked perfect in pictures, in person you could smell the wet, even if you could not see it!

The hilarity continues. Turns out the buyer was local to the seller and is trying to resell at what he overpaid for the trailer. He called me today and tried to tell me how solid the floors were. I may make an offer for what I think it is worth. But this is now the third owner of this trailer since it went on CL three months ago. The only one making money right now is the County Registrar.
