Adding a Minuet to a Land Yacht Family, what's different?

So I have a 71 Caravel that has ben my darlin' for many years now. I'm now being tempted by a '79 6.7m Minuet. I think she might be joining the family.

I would like to do something fun and funky (including paint) and could use a tiny bit more room for some of my interior ideas. The 2725 LB weight is quite alluring as is the door being slightly farther back, leaving more room at the tongue end for a larger front bed.

Assuming I know good basic Airstream knowledge (I'm on my 3rd) what do I need to know specifically about Argosys and or 1979 models? (i have owned '68,'71 & '74)

thanks

About the only real difference is the Minuet may have aluminum floors rather than wood. Some, but not all of the later Munuet's had that build system. Good in that they don't rot, bad in that the factory didn't put as much structure below them on the frame, and they tend to sag. The pano front windows are no longer available in clear glass so protect them very carefully. If you know Airstreams, you generally know Argosy's. The Argosy is slightly simpler and sometimes the build quality is not quite as good.

I used to own a 77 Minuet 6.0 Metre. The aluminium floors are more common in the 77 and 78 model years; that 79 might have plywood.

It was a good honest trailer. Note that it's narrower than your Caravel, so the overall square footage might be surprisingly similar. I do like the room ahead of the door as well as the window there that the 6.7 gives you.

Good luck!

Tom

We like our "Itty Bitty Dirt Yacht " If it is in good condition grab it before someone else does. The extra room at the front comes with only a small weight penalty.

is there a easy way to se what kind of floor it has, i understand from you and other reading around it here a Al floor is unlikely, but I'm hoping and would like to know either way. is there a place in the trailer that you can easily pull flooring covering back like a closet, and are some areas wood , even in a "Al floor model"

yeah that is perfect really, I'm looking for more wall space for counters and closets more than floor or head room, so it seems the Argosy might be right to my style.

I seem to remember the Caravel being narrower than a "normal" Airstream. It's possible the Minuet is the same width as your current trailer.

You should be able to poke around under the dinette/couch or under the kitchen cabinets and find out - especially around things like the furnace or hot water heater or fuse panel.

It will probably be dirty (mine was), but if you rub off the dirt and see silver, you're golden.
