'77 Minuet Furnace

Has anyone ever replace the furnace in their Minuet? If so, what brand, and were you able to use the same exhaust vent?

Yes, I replaced our old 16k Suburban with a new 20k Suburban. At the time we were unable to get a 16k btu replacement. Not sure if they are still available -- probably so.

One problem I had was that on the old unit, there were two 4" adapter rings on the left side (as you face the furnace from inside the trailer) for attaching the two 4" ducts which move the hot air to the front of the trailer, coming out at the floor near the refrigerator, but on the new unit, there was a 4" adapter ring on each side of the unit. I had to fabricate a small collector box on the right side between the furnace and the shower wall, then reroute one of the ducts over the furnace to the collector box -- a bit of a job, but it works great. Since I had the refrigerator out, I went ahead and fabricated all new ductwork and exhausted it in two different places, unlike the previous one.

I could have used the old exhaust vent (the one on the outside of the trailer) but it was quite corroded (it would have fit), so elected to use the new stainless steel one that came with the new furnace. Got the furnace at Palomino.

Good luck with your project. Geo...

If I remember correctly, this is a Suburban NT20 or NT 16. The problem with ducting is one problem, getting the outlet to fit the existing holes in the side of the Argosy is another. They seem to have changed the relative placement of the ait intake/exhaust pipes over the years. It can be done, however. Look on ebay for furnace prices as well as ppl motorhomes.

It took two hours yesterday to remove the old furnace. Went to PPL this morning and bought a Surburban 20,000 and I installed it in about 30 minutes. It works like a charm.

Furnace replacement

After removing the furnace in our Minuet, I decided to replace it with an Olympian heater. The heater was positioned on the wall next to the refrigerator on the left as you enter the door.
Gas source was the line to the refrigerator. Tee'd off this line and also added an in-line shut off valve accesible from the outside refrigerator access door. Had a plumber friend check all the lines for leaks.
We decided on the Olympian 3100 which is the smallest of the three models and it has been adequate even when the temp was below freezing.
An advantage is no electrical draw and probably better gas efficiency. In our case the Minuet is usually "boon docked" with no electrical available.
Ours is the 6.0 Metre model.
This heater can be found on E-Bay at a better price than the local RV dealer.
