77 Minuet 6 metre'

I purchased my 77 Minuet 6 metre last year and have spent waaaay too much money on it but it certainly is a classic and draws interest where ever we camp. However....the wife likes more modern stuff and now I have the decision to make, sell it and get a tin box or what. Comments anyone?

Hi David:
"Ce que femme veut, Dieu le veut!".
The decision is to evaluate which relationship is most important: the one between you and Diana... or the one you have with your Minuet? Would you prefer travel alone in your little Argosy? If you are happy with your wife, believe me, there is no Airstream that is worth a long discussion...
Put an add, with lots of photos...

Decisions, decisions.

I grinned at the reply I got about my decision. Perhaps I can trade the wife in on a larger Airstream?

naaaaah, cheaper to keep her. Actually after reading more of the forum threads I am probably going to end up keeping the Argosy at least for the time being and go ahead and upgrade the galley.

The purists I know think they must be left original however I will certainly store the original items I remove just in case. I did that with the lights as they were too dim for my use and the replacements didn't modify the trailer. The options I had thought about for the galley were removing the range as the oven doesn't appear to have been ever used in 31 years. I already have a two burner smaller stove top and thougth of installing a microwave in the space where the oven is. The tambour door under the sink had deteriorated to the point of not opening so it was removed. I will probably buy another Refrigerator as mine only works on gas now. I saw someone had a Dometic RM2410 which fit so that will probably be the one. Then just cabinetry and re-formica the counter and table top. My unit has the slide out gaucho so I only have the one table top. I thought of a flip up counter attached to the side of the cabinet in front of the door to extend the limited counter space but not block the doorway. More later I hope.

Today we visited Inland RV in Corona, CA. We bought 30' of beige insert nosing for the bath. It worked wonderfully. We also bought replacement tambour for under the kitchen sink. We have tried to install it, but we cannot get it to slide. Has anyone else had this problem?

Is the tambour binding because it is too tall? Measure the track separation to make sure the tracks are parallel. Make sure you have clearance for the tambour all along the track, but especially at the narrowest opening between the tracks. We used to use Slipicon (sp?) to lube the tracks to make them slide easier. If the height is OK, try slightly lifting the front edge of the tambour and sliding it. I have found that the fit of the under sink tambour on our Minuet leaves something to be desired but that giving a slight lift to the door as I operate it makes it slide much better with a lot less stress on the door. A '79 Minuet had the same problem with the additional problem of non-parallel tracks. The top of the door would actually leave the track in the closed position making the entire door bind seriously. Hope this helps.

What is it?

I am posting a picture of an object on the back of my 77 Argosy. Please help me identify it.

Dometic vs Norcold

I had a bad experience with Dometic's customer service on my AC unit. So I really don't want to use their refrigerator. Does anyone have any comments about the Norcold N300 which is a close enough fit for my old RM46E Dometic.
Is there a measurement for the top of the axle to the wheel well that tells you the condition of the axle rubber? Or is there another way to tell the condition?

Thanks,

Dave

ps: guess we are keeping the Argosy

For the axle go to pages 1 and 2 of "Information Overload" in this forum. Andy at Inland RV refers to an article on axles that will answer your axle questions. As for the refrigerator, I just finished putting in a Dometic 2351 to replace the RM46. I figured the 46 lasted 30 years so I couldn't go too far wrong with the Dometic. Also, it was on sale at ppl motorhomes. In passing, I doubt any of them will be a drop in fit. Prepare for some modification.

Pics showing new tambour door and refrigerator.

Putting in the tambour door was somewhat of a pain, but the final result looks good.

The tambour door looks terrific. What did you do to make it work?

Eventhough we had Inland RV use the old door as a pattern for the new door, we had to cut the new door down twice to get it in place. Even at that, trying to feed the new door into the track is a challenge and takes patience. LOL

Minuet Returns from more Updates

Today we brought the Argosy home from the shop. We had a new battery charger/converter installed, two new Fantastic fans, a new antenna with cable hookup, valve under bathroom sink removed and replaced with direct pipe, and had the plumbing on the shower drain installed so that the shower now drains out the blakc/grey water outlet. Interior is now complete.

Duo, during your tambour door project did you ever manage to expose the entire lower track...including the roll-up part? The under-sink tambour on my '76 Argosy 26 is binding on me and I'd like to clean the entire track but can't figure out how to get into it.

Our roll-up part is on the right side of the cabinet in a small compartment. Once the tambour door was removed, the plastic roll-up part was able to be removed, as it is held in place by two screws. We washed this and then replaced.

Great, thanks. My tambour rolls on the right side as well. So does that mean that I have to remove the tambour door in order to get to the roll-up portion of the lower track? If so, how do I remove the tambour?

I just looked at the tambour door under the sink. I am going to hazard a guess that the tracks for the door are held to the cabinet with two pop rivets, one at either side of the door opening about 1.5 inches down from the door opening. Drilling these out should drop the track and free the door. This is just a guess as I have not removed this door in my own Argosy, but it looks like a good guess to me.

I was afraid someone would say that....I have yet to drill out a rivet. I'm perfectly capable, just apprehensive. That means I have to go buy a rivet gun to redo whatever I undo. I guess I should have expected that comes with buying a vintage Argosy.

Be of good cheer. Buy 1/8" drills, put the point in the dimple in the head of the rivet, drill carefully and square to the surface, and the head will pop off. The track will drop when the rivets release. Go to Harbor Freight or Lowes or Home Depot and buy a pop rivet tool and some 1/8" rivets, medium length. When you get the track and scroll cleaned, align the holes in the track, slip the rivet into place, use the tool to pull the rivet. I would guess you will have to color the head of the rivet with a marker as I have yet to find brown rivets.
