'76 Argosy questions...

Howdy y'all... I'm new to the forum and would just like to introduce myself and pick your brains at the same time... I just picked up this 76 Argosy and have a few questions...

I have been reading and it apperars that the air conditioner may be an armstrong. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new upper section that has holes from hail damage?

Can parts for these still be ordered from a dealer? (The windstream web site is not very helpful)...

Is there any aftermarket companies that parts can be purchased from?

Many more questions to come I'm sure...

Greetings Shame

I don't know if your AC unit is aftermarket or not. Anyway, First get the make, model number. Then google the manufacturer. Go to their website. Sometimes, you can order parts just by clicking. Or call them.

Another path you might come across is websites for companies that just sell parts.

What is " Windstream "???

Congrats! I have a 76 Argosy as well. I have no answers for you in regards to the a/c... Good luck.

There are a number of after market part suppliers for Airstream.

Vintagetrailersupply.com is a great resource.

Welcome to the forums!

'76 Argosy questions...

Greetings Shame!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Argosys!

I suspect that your Argosy's air conditioner is an Armstrong, and as was posted by Argosy 7728, Inland RV is probably the best source for a new replacement shroud. When compared to other RVs the age of our first generation Argosys, there are many parts still available from the manufacturer . . . and there is a remarkable number of reproduction parts available from a number of vendors who are active here on this Forum.
  • Vintage Friendly Airstream Dealers
    Inland RV -- Corona, CA
Ace Fogdall RV -- Cedar Falls, IA
Out of Doors Mart -- Colfax, NC
    Vintage Friendly Parts Vendors
    Vintage Trailer Supply -- Vermont
    Fantastic Vent -- Elkhart, IN
Zip Dee, Inc. -- Elk Grove Village, IL

There are many other, but the above are a sampling of sources of parts for our Vintage Airstream and Argosy travel trailers.

Something that you might want to consider before towing your Argosy a significant amount is the addition of a rock guard to protect those valuable clear Panoramic front windows . . . the deep wrap wing windows are now available only in Solar Gray tinted rather than the clear utilized on our Argosy travel trailers . . . and the cost of a new deep-wrap wing window it typically in excess of $750.

I am sure that your Argosy will provide you with much enjoyment as you learn more about its unique character!

Again, Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Argosy ownership!

Kevin

We just got what I think is a '76 28 foot as well. One thing I see that appears different though, is ours has the 3 panel wraparound windows on both ends.
The title lists it as a '78 but the tag on the front says 76.

We have not really begun yet, I am going to do some major cleanup inside tomorrow. it's in pretty good shape inside but the carpet is going away and a new commode will be in order. First we have some roof damage that has caused a small leak in the bathroom ceiling and a spot of floor by the door is rotted, possibly from the door being sprung and not sealing or maybe from the fresh water tank leaking. All remains to be seen.
We plan a new furnace as well and while the a/c unit comes on we don't know yet if it gets cold.
My head has a small tornado of things to look at, ideas, worries, considerations, and lists of stuff blowing around in there. Priorities will become obvious soon.

Glad to be a member here and looking forward to this big adventure!

Good luck on your new trailer. Our 77 28' has the wrap around windows in the back also.

Rear bedroom/side bath Argosy trailers have pano windows on both ends, and are a bit uncommon. Welcome to the club! Mine's a '76 also.

I believe inlandrv.com has what you need. I believe the part number for the shroud that you need is #69831. I am not 100% percent on this but from the pictures you provided it looks like that is the shroud that is needed. I would find the model number of the ac unit and give inland a call and double check just to make sure. Enjoy your trailer!!
