6 metre interior rehab?

Hi - We recently purchased a "77 minuet. The interior is gloriously (original and thread bare) orange and in need of a face lift. Is there any reason to keep the original counters and upholstry?

We have just replaced the original toilet with a new Sealand model 111 - it was a tight squeeze but it went in with no alteraltion to the body and is a great improvement.

In my humble opinion; give it the face lift you want! You're going to be the one using it. We have bought three A/S’s in our time and sold the first two. The first two had a face lift with curtains upholstery, etc. I can't speak about the counters though, we never changed any of them, however, we managed to get our money back out of them whenever we sold them excluding labor.

Welcome to the forums!

6 metre interior rehab?

Greetings Janet!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Minuet ownership!

My '78 Minuet also had the "Orange" interior package down to the burnt orange shag carpeting when I purchased it in August of 2002. The countertops, bath fixtures, and wall coverings are about the only things that did not receive new treatments. My Minuet had near mint countertops and wall coverings so I chose to keep them and utilized them to set the tone for my other interior decor. The orange, however, did make it rather challenging to find upholstery fabric that would incorporate the colors that I wanted, but it did work out to my total satisfaction.

I had no qualms about changing the fabric and bath colors in my coaches, and I wouldn't have had reservations with changing the countertops had I not been satisfied with the originals. Unless you are aiming for a total factory stock restoration there isn't an overriding reason to keep original colors that you are not pleasing to you. IMHO

Be prepared if you decide to replace the floor covering. You are very likely to find that the coach has aluminum composite floors that are not friendly to coverings other than carpeting or well padded laminates - - vinyl tile isn't a practical choice as the rivets would telegraph through the vinyl. Most of us who have Minuets with replacement floor coverings have learned that our coaches have the aluminum composite, but there is no concrete indicator of when the practice was started or when it eneded - - it does seem, however, to be limited to the 20' and at least a few 22' Minuets.

You can see the "before" photos of my Minuet by clicking on the "photos" button at the bottom of my post.

Good luck with your project!

Kevin
