1977 Argosy Grey/Black Water

I am now the proud owner of a 24ft 1977 Argosy trailer. I am making my way through the systems and am ready to tackle the holding tank(s). Can anyone tell me if there is a grey water tank on this unit. The black water tank handle is at the back behind the bumper and is not wanting to move. Also next to the hose connect on the rear left there appears to be another valve handle but with no handle just a large washer.

Any info/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome and congrats on your new rig! On the 77 there should be a gray tank although it's likely that the shower is not connected to the gray tank (sink water only).

If you dig in and do some searching you should be able to find both owners manual and schematics posted by various members.

Sounds like it's time for you to get out the drill and take off the belly pan in the rear to take a look at the drainage system. It is hard to figure out what you have without being able to see it. The immovable handle may be a valve that is toast, or a valve extension that is sticking.

On my 77 Tradewind the black tank has the handle in the middle of the rear bumper and the gray tank has the handle right near the water inlet and sewer hose connections on the road side of the trailer.

For what it's worth my shower does go into the gray tank.

Also the handle on my gray tank is still intact. The black tank handle though is just a rod with a nut on the end and a small 2-3" piece of steel plate and then another nut.

I hope that helps!

The black tank sits on the floor, under the toilet, and is about 15-20 gallons. The grey tank, from what I remember of the 77 Argosy 24 I had, is something like 5-10 gallons, and is under the floor. The black tank valve will be inside the bumper compartment, and will pull open to the rear, and the grey handle will be on the street side rear corner, and will pull open to the outer left side of the trailer.

My 77 Argosy is longer and has the black tank (about 10 gal.) above the floor and grey tank (about 12 gal.) below. The shower does go into the grey tank. The black tank handle is on the side of the trailer and the grey handle was originally about 3' under the trailer on the same side. I have extended it out to the side. The shorter Argosy's I have seen are as described by overlander63. One on the side and one in the rear bumper compartment.

Certainly. Will give update when I get into it. From what I see, I have both black and grey tanks. Black valve opened up but did not seal when closed so will need to get into it.

My 76 26 has black tank pull rod in center of rear bumper compartment, and a small black T handle and lock swivel hook for both sides of T handle. The grey tank handle is on road side rear by the water connection. To help toilet gasket or waste tank gaskets to slide try putting Dawn Liquid in tank and let wash around, and may help if have dried tp hung up there.

My 1973 Argosy doesn't have the grey tank.

I only have the one valve in the bumper compartment for the black tank.

I use a cap on the on the Valter ( sp? ) drain outlet with a garden hose outlet that drains into an external blue boy tank.

If you have two valves….you most likely have a black and grey tank.

Most of my outings are at Rodeo Grounds, Sheep farms and places that they fertilize with cow manure. No one is concerned with new grey water, that I just washed with. However if you let grey water sit in a tank for any length of time …it gets real nasty. I've mentioned this before, I had a Honey Dipper truck have a mishap, and I ended up with 20 gallons of the nastiest greywater dumped on my campsite. And I went off on the guy. He said not to worry, and he sprayed water over the site. 20 minutes later you couldn't tell. The soil takes care of it.

I know it's not PC at campgrounds to dump grey water.

On our 76 24ft. The black handle is in the bumper and the grey handle is by the water inlet as the others have said. However on the 24 the tank sizes as I remember it is only 10 or 11 gals for black and 10 or 11 gals, for grey. We can get a few days out of the black but the grey needs to be emptied daily.
