1977 Argosy 6 Meter Paint Job
After owning the Argosy for 1 1/2 years, and remodeling the inside, we finally decided to have all the exterior dents removed and a new paint job. After much discussion, we decided to have it repainted the original colors. The next purchase will be an awning. It has been in the shop for one week now, and we can't wait to see the final result.

And we can't either. Post the finished result photographs when you get it back.

My wife and I have a '78 28' and we are interested in what it costs you to paint the "beast"?

We were given an estimate of $4000 for the body work and paint job.

Hello.. Hubby did all the prep work ie dent removal, priming etc on our 30' Argosy and had it painted at a shop that specializes in Firetrucks, buses and transports... cost of 1200 for paint ( not primer) and 2000 labor. Hubby did autobody repair... he thinks it would have cost 8-10,000 if we have had to have it done by someone else... he is very fussy...

That is the price we were given for the body work and the paint job. We stopped by today to check on it and they were doing the decals although we didn't see it. It should be ready by the 1st of Jan.

Our Argosy Six Metre came home from the shop today with a new paint job. We are very excited about the results and are ready to take it on a trip. We feel that we got a great deal on the paint job for a little less than $4000, we got all the dents removed, end caps completely stripped and resurfaced prior to painting, underbelly resurfaced with rock guard coating, Argosy decals restored and a complete paint job. We decided to go with its original color, but with a gloss coat.

The results look great!! Since you were under budget does this mean you leftover funds for more goodies?
Congratulations,
Kevin

I agree - that looks great and based on the results, I'd say you got a good deal!
Are you replacing the beltline trim with the original orange? Also, did you put a new license plate light on? I'm tempted to do that with ours (the factory one is looking kinda shabby)...

We still have the original license plate light. I may replace that in the future though. I am currently looking for the beltline trim. I would prefer to find a dark burgandy/maroon beltline, however, if I can't, I will definitely go with orange. I looked on the Inland RV website, but they only show blue. I went to their shop a couple summers ago while on vacation, and I believe they told me at that time they did stock other colors. I am going to give them a call this week.

After I was done painting I used formica for the beltline. Cheap and easy to use and comes in any color. But it does expand and contract with the temperature.

It looks great, and that is a great idea. What about your hubcaps? Where did you get those? What color is the trim? It is hard to tell from the pic.

The hubcaps are original. The beltline trim is black. I was going to put a black pinstripe on the Burb, but haven't gotten to it yet.
P.S. I now the trailer is riding low. Since this picture I've replaced the axles.

The new paint job looks great, your shop did nice work. And I think the price you got was very good.
Now, you said you also remodeled the inside-- I don't suppose you have any pictures of that you'd be willing to share?

We have another thread that shows the progression from when we bought the trailer. Try this link.

Looks great. What company did you go with to paint your Argosy?
Thanks,
