Mmmm Grey Water

I noticed when I inspected the trailer that it only has a black water tank, and no grey tank. There is a post somewhere here about how grey tanks were not added until '74 - I guess we just missed it by a year.

Has anyone here modified their Overlander to take a grey tank? I am thinking of adding one near the axels.

Any pics or plans you can share would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome!

Many AS owners have added gray tanks to their AS's. I just installed one on the Trade Wind. If you go under the formum search you will find tons and tons of great info some it pertaining to your unit. It takes a bit of work and depending on your skills is not too hard to do. Good luck and keep us posted on your project!

No Problem.. just get a tote buggy...we have a grey tank and still carry the tote for places that have no sewer and we are going to be there for awhile..

mlang905 - we have the same year and length trailer; my outdoor trailer has the belly skin off untill I can drop both BW and FW tanks (warmer weather) to finish the floor-on rehab. Our vintage rear bath models end up flooding the bathtub with very little water down the drain & thats unacceptable in my book. Even having three or five gallon holding ability would be a huge improvement.

I hope restore-ace shows up and teaches us the better way

Where do you store the tote when you are towing?

I don't have a "blue boy" but I hear a lot of people store them in the shower when towing. Anyone else?

The 4CU Dead Horse Rally was at a dry campsite. My wife got a big kick seeing the TV's pulling the blue totes over to the Dump Station. Next year we will have the great tote race...

I'd love to see someone do a custom paint job on one of them with flames.

Either in the tub/shower, or in the bed of the tow vehicle, if you have a pickup truck to tow with.

A cautionary note: You may not always be able to dump grey water in a dump or be able to discharge on the ground. If this happens, you will have to figure out how to lift the tote (+8lbs a gallon) and store it in route to your next destination or a dump station. I am not against blue totes, I use one myself, I simply want to point out a potential downfall which you might not see coming. Of course, there is always the covert dump method…….

Thetford SmartTote Portable Waste Tanks, check these out! Personally I think they are much better than the old BLUE ones. Lots of features for about the same price and are very, very black tank friendly!

We use ours to dump from the trailer to the dump station in the park..ours is the wheeled one with the handle that goes over the hitch, no way would be even consider taking a full tote in the truck
