Rivet 'Silver bullets' go on parade

Lansing State Journal

More than 1,700 vintage Airstream trailers and motor homes paraded from DeWitt to Capital City Airport on Saturday.

The unusual sight was part of the first Wally Byam Caravan Club International Rally hosted in Lansing.

The "silver bullets" started making their way into Lansing June 7, creating a small suburb of 3,500 people near the airport. They will depart July 5.

The Wally Byam Caravan Club is the world's oldest recreational vehicle club and is named for the Airstream inventor.

Rallies are held every year in different states around July 4, Byam's birthday. He came up with the Airstream name in 1934.

During their stay, members of the club attend seminars and enjoy evening entertainment at the Lansing Center.

The club will host a free open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the site near the airport.

For more information, call the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau at 487-0077 or visit the club's Web site: www.wbcci.org.

I think that they misplaced the decimal point. Total attendance was about 1250 units, including vintage. Original estimate was 1700 units, but about 400 cancelled. (gas prices??)

Greart International Rally. Excellent entertainment and sound system, muddy parking with all the rain leading up to the event, 30A available for the first time (125 or so took advantage of it).
