SF Chronicle article
The Mod Pod
An SF architect gives Airstream trailers a modernist makeover
An article on Airstreams was featured in today's "Surreal Estate" section by Carol Lloyd, a regular feature on unique ways of dealing with Bay Area housing costs. They discussed the CCD line, apparently Christopher Deam gained some of his ideas for the CCD when designing a 675sf house for his brother in the Berkeley Hills. I hope the following link works:

I was interviewed and quoted in the story. She got my name from the forum. That's cool. Too bad Chris never recovered his CCD, though.

Good job!
Well done Big Dee! I always read her articles and find the whole housing thing in the Bay Area fascinating. I have a vacant hillside lot on the peninsula that I would love to permanently park an Airstream on but of course that would never fly with the city council. Of course it is so steep that if I got it in there I would probably never get it back out without a crane. Too bad because the view would be great.

Nothing is free or even cheap in Santa Cruz. It's about $50 a night. But free sounds more romantic, I guess.

Foggy Sunsets at a discount..
Dan-
Congrats on nice story, with few rough details on Wally history... Where oh where can you park for an entire summer in Santa Cruz area?? And are those free sunsets only available on days when the sun and moon and stars are completely obscured by the fog?? (That's about 80% of the time for non-Californians..)

Good Job, Big Dee, I didn't realize that was YOU until right now. It's also in today's Sunday Chron.
You teach middle school...no wonder you want to get away so often!

Very cool article, and would also love to know of your little beach hideaway Big Dee as will be perfect when visiting sister in the bay area!
Maybe AS will customize another 16ft Bambi for Chris Deam as his design was such a winner for them!

This in the Denver Post, Nov. 13 '05
saw this in todays paper: "A 1972 airstream will serve as a skate rental shop for The Rink at Belmar. Developer Cintinuum Partners paid P&S Trailers of Helena, Ohio, $4500 for the airstream and spent another $6500 refurbishing it to accommodate customer service windows, heaters, and a cappuccino maker. It will hold up to 250 pairs of skates and 20 helmets. Steve Ruth, a third-generation airstream dealer, drove the vehicle 1,250 miles from Ohio to Belmar" As someone here said recently in regards to restoring to original, refurbishing, modernizing, or completely changing: It's all good! Any form of preservation is a boost to all airstream owners, including creative new uses for them. Just my opinion- tim
