renting your airstream for a photo shoot?

sorry, I know there are threads about this, but i haven't visited for while and I'm having no luck searching.

I registered my Safari with an agency--i think it's Classic Cars or something like that--and just got a call=--am working out a price--I seem to remember someone getting $350 a day? does that sound right?

if you could even just point me to a thread on this that would be helpful--thanks!! Zoe

Agree with LI Pets. You're becoming a stage mother for your little darling. Photographers pass all on-site shoot costs to the client. Some "talent" costs $350 an hour. You'd have to sit there and watch them take a bajllion shots and your time is worth something also. Don't sell you or the 'Stream short, they want it for something they can't normally get. Hit 'em with your best shot and listen to 'em whine while they make out the check...75% of the estimated time they need it (in advance) remainder to be paid prior to leaving the location.

I have a 1956 Thunderbird that I have rented out for photo shoots. Ten years ago, I got $750.00 per day. If I did it now, I would want $1,000.00 per day to make it worth my trouble. These production companies will want to low ball you while they're paying $1,000.00 a day for sandwiches. Make sure that they make it worth your while. $350.00 will be for a 10-12 hour day. That's about $30.00 an hour. That is hardly worth your time considering that you are providing a major photo prop.

The folks who have already posted obviously have some experience with this and know what they are talking about. But IMO, it might be kind of fun to hang out on a movie or commercial set for a day or two. They usually feed pretty well and you may get to see your very own AS on film. $30 an hour may be some cash that you can use. I think if it sounds good to you, go for it. Ron

We got $250 for 1 (very long) day for a TV show. It was interesting, got free lunch (good caterer!) but I wouldn't do it again for less than a grand...the episode has not aired yet.

There's always a number of things to consider. I charge out at $1200 a day for photography. If the talents in short supply it's worth anything up to that much and maybe more! I take the point that it's great to be on film/in the movies but you can have all of that and your pockets filled!

I do have to think about this--also because it involves taking the Safari into NYC from NJ--not an easy job. If it were nearby, and easy to get to, that's a different matter.

I'll let you all know what the final decision was....

And, as somebody who almost had her beloved trailer destroyed by an explosion and fire on a movie set...make sure they provide proof of insurance.

That is such an excellent point. I was on the Universal Studios fire in 1990. We were there for about 12 hours. The hardest part for me was seeing the people showing up the next morning who had lost their classic and antique cars that were there on the backlot sets for a Stallone movie set in the 30's. Those were real tears they were shedding.

I would stipulate that any alternations need your approval on the spot and that you or your representative stay with the unit the entire time.
- Will they spray dulling spay on the exterior?
- Will they attach things or drill things in the interior and damage it?
- Will it be in an action sequence?
- Will the hookups be done incorrectly and need a total rewiring job?
- Does the agency provide insurance on it for you and what are the deductibles?
I have a sideline photography business, and things are done to a "prop" to make it more photogenic.
If this is your honey, it sounds like you have to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.
Go with your gut feeling.

We have 3 Airstreams, a old pick-up and school bus and they can take pictures on the property. So bring in the beautiful models
