Missing from the so called apology: "Damn, I should asked the kids to change the license plates before we started our defacing of a national monument". What a crock of .........

Exactly! The lesson we learned from Watergate is "it's not the crime, it's the cover up."
Anderson's apology simply says " I acted in the spur of the moment and did not stop to think about what I was doing."
From the accounts we've heard so far, people did ask him to stop, but he refused. He then switched his license plates in an attempt to cover his tracks.
If he would have stopped carving when someone told him what an idiot he was being, and apologized for the half-carved image, then I'd accept his apology. But the fact that he's still not telling the whole truth shows that he's still in spin mode. This is not an apology, this is a cover up.
I'm not in the market for a hitch, but if I was I wouldn't buy an Andersen (or an Anderson, just to cover all the bases ). One less sale isn't going to cause anybody at Andersen to lose their job. But if enough people stopped buying Andersen products that it started to affect the company, it's still up to Andersen (and anyone else in company leadership) to figure out how to deal with it. He could start laying people off, but he could also leave the company - sell his shares to a sibling, or whatever. I'll boycott his products until I feel they're dealing with the situation appropriately, and leave the company management up to them.

Got our Camcos today. Actually think they might work better with our dual-axle than the Andersens.

I wasn't defending him with my "contrite" comment. I meant it more sarcastically- as in the let's see if he follows through with the promises.

I'm not familiar with that story, but if Andersen did follow what Patagonia has done, that would be a good thing.
There are not many companies that do more for the environment than Patagonia.

Yes, I got your sarcasm at the time. The term "contrite" seemed like a good fulcrum on which to balance the photo IMO.
His follow-through will be important for sure.
Cheers,
Peter

Ordered mine this weekend. Interested to see how they perform in terms of slippage/skidding. I never had that problem with the red ones though others have talked about adding studs to them to prevent that.
When you try them out - please let us know how they work! Thanks!

My new Camco ramps arrive today. Will be back with Rocinante on Friday, looking forward to trying them out.
This horse isn’t dead until the Andersens post a sincere apology, lose in court, make significant financial restitution, and do a ton of public service work in the National Parks and/or public lands.

Perfect penalty...Change the name to Anderson with a ''O'', and give the company to the employees. A financial blow to him, a win for the employees. I can think of many way to tell someone that I love them without defacing America. A wink with a smile, taking her out to the opera, a candlelit dinner at sunset, etc.etc. for starters. Maybe we should start a thread on expressing love with gestures for Mr A.

No, the win here is that this person has a life changing event. He needs to learn that defacing public land is not showing love for his family.
No, this horse is not dead. It will not be dead until it becomes a universal goal of all to protect our public lands.
No, there is no recognition of this event or a commitment to conservation of public lands on the andersen website. If you search apology, it comes up "No Results Found" so he has yet to do everything he can ..... not by any measure.
The elephant in the room is the 2016 "andersen" damage. While there may be no proof he did it, his action linked him to the area. Either he picked the wrong place or he was proliferating a prior practice. Public opinion will be the jury.
No, not done yet. Pat
