How much time polishing do you think it would take per year to keep a small trailer like this Orvis one looking like it does now? Stored inside most of the year, and maybe used 2 months per year?

quality and name brands aside i for one would be scared to death to take this trailer out on the road or into the woods knowing i paid 109,000 (probably more when all is said and done) for it. i guess i look at airstream or any other camper as just that......A CAMPER!! at this price for me it has gone from camper to ...guest house? office? studio? in other words she gets parked and that's that.
but i'm just a cynical a**hole so what do i know

I doubt if it will be bought for mainly camping. I would think there would be lots of opportunities to use in in some sort of outdoor related busisness. Might be a good fit for one of the Orvis endorsed lodges or outfitters. It would look good in a Bass Pro shop or a Cabelas. If somebody does buy this and it shows up in a forest service campground on the Madison or in Yellowstone or on a caravan to Alaska then my hat is off to the owners. I would love to camp next to them once.

One of the reasons Orvis maintains a lot of brand appeal has to be the the Orvis endorsed lodges and fishing and hunting trips and guides. And the Orvis endorsed ones are generally very good. I have no idea how it works with the money between Orvis and the outfitter, but it would seem to me that that part of the company is more attractive than selling womens blouses in an outlet. Fly shops now are like real estate, location, location, location. The only thing that seems to matter is to be in a area that is highly attractive to traveling anglers.

WOW,
$112K and still climbing with less than 4 hours to go. I hope the new owners are aware of all of the curiosity that this auction has generated. I wouldn't be surprised to see this on the road as the rebuild design appears to have that in mind as an end state.

I don't feel bad now putting almost $12K just this last year into our 1972 International, with a few more going into it this winter between vista windows and two new panels, that they original quote was quite shocking.

We did pursuit the idea of replacing the front dining area with the new style leather seats and table that is currently being used by Airstream. The $8500 dollar quote plus freight cost made us rethink that upgrade. Good quality stuff still comes at a cost.

I guess when you figure the cost of materials, the great craftsmanship/labor by TTT the soon to be owner/s struck a pretty good deal. I wonder if it comes with a 2-year or lifetime warranty?

It sure has been fun watching this for the last few weeks.

Happy Airstreaming to all.

I would love to camp with this trailer as well. If I owned this unit my only concern with taking it camping would be theft. I would never leave it. And then, what's the point?

I tried to find out...... Could the bright polish job be clear coated? I tried to look at the specs, but didn't see anything to answer that query.

I used to run the Telluride Rotary 4X4 Tour and absolutely loved it when people would come in with the their high dollar Range Rovers and Mercedes G-Wagons and use them like their supposed to be used off road. One guy from NY was stranded for two days waiting for a pair of special tires and a wheel for his RR after doing a tough scree field. Hopefully, one of those kind of guys bought it and will use it for camping. I know I would.
