NPR's Story Corps In Milwaukee
National Public radio's Airstream converted into a sound recording studio named Story Corps is visiting Milwaukee, WI this week. It is parked downtown next to our performing arts center.
The idea is to make an appointment, go and tell your story about Milwaukee. These tales are then recorded and some are played on air. You do get a CD of your story. Best part is that they chose an AS to use as the roving studio. They will park it downtowns across the nation throughout the summer.

Storycorps Airstream Mobile Booth in Minneapolis
The Airstream mobile booth is now in downtown Minneapolis until July 10 parked on Peavey Plaza at 11th Street and Nicollet Mall.
The Minneapolis StarTribune featured this story on its front page today.

This is really cool, hadn't noticed this thread before. I found their Flickr page as well: http://flickr.com/photos/73131447@N00/sets/308908/
which shows photos of the Airstream leaving Jackson Center, the interior recording studio, and that AWESOME side door for moving the studio equipment in and out...

Hmm... I notice no LP tanks. Must be a summer project non-live-aboard adventure (beats heading out in a Pink-Stream like Simpleton Life!!!) As DavyDD said it passed thru Mpls before heading east -- the local station's website featured a lot of pictures. I searched these forums on 'wheelchair' -- knowing we've had a lot of questions in the past. That's quite the equipment door and ramp (saw the picture somewhere...). Now that the development has been done, I wonder if Airstream would do it again if somebody wanted to special order it?

Why Airstream?
I'd love to know the story behind the story. Why use an Airstream when other SOB boxes would come so much cheaper? Who made the decision? Kudos to him/her. When you think about it, in the construction industry there are many companies that custom outfit square boxes for just this kind of thing--basically a mobile office. It probably would have been much easier to go that route.
Last year I noticed WCCO (radio, TV?) in Minneapolis had a highly decorated exterior painted Airstream trailer office outside the Metrodome at a Twins game. I went back to photograph it the day after the homestand ended and it wasn't there. Haven't been to a Twins game this year so don't know if that was a one time thing or a regular occurrance.

style, style, style and it's classy. I saw this on the npr page and was surprised, had not seen it before. I was going to add a new thread about it but took canoe stream's advice "Try that 'Search' function -- it works!" and found it was already posted. Nothing gets by you ASers.

Kudos to storycorps!
Wow I think that's so cool that they are getting people's stories, sort of reminds me of the WPA stuff in the 30s with the slave narratives, that was such a gold mine for teachers/historians/genealogists, I imagine it must be a very empowering and validating feeling to have someone seek your stories and to preserve them for others.
