Hi Paula. I'm glad you got a chance to visit! There was an older thread on this Airstream. We also have threads on other NASA Airstream trailers (beyond the moho used to take astronauts to the pad on launch day).
A bit of trivia -- CV-12 Hornet was sent home from the Pacific 2 months before the end of the war. She buried her nose during second of Halsey's Typhoons and broke the front of the flight deck. Halsey faced a court of inquiry and avoided a court martial due to the end of WWII and his flag command.

Hi Bob,
Thnx for the info..added note to this..Steve's NSGW org had their Dedication of the Pier there that day (which is why we were there initially) to honor Jimmy Doolittle..does the name ring a bell?

Ring a bell?
Only a little bit: CV-8 Hornet launched Doolittle's raid. CV-8 sunk on Oct. 27, 1942. Hull of Kearsarge, CV-12, renamed Hornet and launched 6 years to the day before I was born. :

Hi Steph,
The 'private tour' to the flight Deck and museum was fun for sure!

Just today I saw another quarantine unit at the Udvar-Hazy ( prob spelled wrong) museum at Dulles. Not prominently displayed, though.
