Rivet McConaughey Treats Himself To A New Trailer

ContactMusic.com
21/06/2004 14:57

Movie star MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY is already hooked on the new series of reality show THE SIMPLE LIFE - he's bought a trailer identical to the one NICOLE RICHIE and PARIS HILTON drove across America.

The A TIME TO KILL star has treated himself to a 28 foot (8.5 meters) Airstream International trailer.

Airstream spokesman DON DOBRANSKY (corr) says, "We don't know if he's a fan of The Simple Life, but it's a big coincidence that he's bought this as the new show starts in America.

"His trailer is the same line as the one used by Paris and Nicole, but bigger. He was planning to tow it back to his home in Texas."

McConaughey joins a growing list of celebrities who have bought the new Airstream trailers so far this year (04) - LENNY KRAVITZ bought three trailers to use as cabanas on his estate in The Bahamas and McConaughey's ex SANDRA BULLOCK is also shopping for one.

McConaughey, Supporting 'Sahara' for the Long Haul

By Richard Leiby
Tuesday, March 1, 2005; Page C03

Where did hunky actor Matthew McConaughey spend his Oscar night? While his girlfriend and "Sahara" co-star, Penelope Cruz, could be seen on the tube presenting a golden statuette in Hollywood, McConaughey was in College Park -- spending the night in a trailer park, no less.

He's on a six-week cross-country tour with producing partner John Chaney, driving a Ford F-250 King Ranch truck, pulling an Airstream trailer and staying in RV parks to promote "Sahara," an action-adventure flick opening April 8. "It hadn't really been done before," he told us yesterday by phone while drinking Dunkin' Donuts coffee, adding that he views the PR campaign as "a brilliant idea!" (Hollywood: where everyone's a genius.)

Road trip! Matthew McConaughey is touring the country in a trailer to promote "Sahara." The action-adventure film is due out in April.

"We're meeting people at truck stops, handing out T-shirts and hats, having barbecues," says the 35-year-old actor, known for such comedies as "Dazed and Confused" and "The Wedding Planner." "I believe in this film. . . . It's like a big epic. . . . I really dig the film."

So, from the Moroccan deserts -- where he shot for five months -- to snowy Washington (he lunched at Olives downtown yesterday)? McConaughey tells us: "I haven't seen snow in two years, so this is pretty cool." He screened "Sahara" at Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday night for troops and planned to be in Baltimore tonight -- one of a dozen or so stops before ending up back in Los Angeles.

And watch out, fans: "You may see Penelope on the road." But, shooting down a rumor, he says, "We are not engaged." As for departing words of wisdom, he channels his famous "Dazed and Confused" character Wooderson, and says, smoothly: "Hey, just keep livin'."

Don't you suppose it's vinyl application vs, paint? It SHOULD be removable.

I think.

<grin> Funny you should mention that, when we were researching Airstreams, our 8 yo dd *loved* the Hello Kitty model. It inspired her to make us several sketches of how she would *customize* her own personal Airstream...including an American Girl model. She had been sketching late into the night, we thought she had been asleep for quite some time when she came into our room and presented us with half a dozen very detailed designs. I didn't have the heart to scold her for the lateness of the hour....her ingenuity on the project made us proud!

AUSTIN

McConaughey rides into town for 'Sahara' premiere

By Joe Stafford

AMERICAN-STATESMAN

Tuesday, March 29, 2005

After towing a custom Airstream trailer more than 5,000 miles across the country, Matthew McConaughey brought the action film "Sahara" to his hometown Monday night, previewing the Indiana Jones-style adventure to a sold-out, adoring throng at the Paramount Theatre. The Austin Film Society sponsored the red-carpet event.

The University of Texas grad was introduced by Longhorns Coach Mack Brown and presented with a set of bongos by City Manager Toby Futrell, a reference to his 1999 arrest for noisy late-night drumming.

"This is so you can keep playing beautiful music in our town, nekkid or not," she said.

As for his trailer trip, McConaughey says in his blog on mtv.com that "it's actually a really great way to see the country and a great way to live — not that I don't like five-star hotels as well."

The film, directed by the relatively unknown Breck Eisner and co-starring Steve Zahn and McConaughey's girlfriend, Penelope Cruz, follows McConaughey in the role of Dirk Pitt, a recurring character in the novels of Clive Cussler, as he seeks a Civil War battleship in West Africa. The film opens nationwide April 8.

Tell me, what is wrong with this paragraph-

From MSN Entertainment
"Have you seen Matthew McConaughey on your local highway recently? When the star of the upcoming action/adventure "Sahara" sat down with the press last week, he was close to finishing a 32-day trek across the country to promote his new movie. Starting in his hometown of Austin, Texas, McConaughey has driven a custom-painted Gulfstream trailer (with "Sahara" imagery, of course) everywhere from Daytona, Florida, to New York City to its current stop in Los Angeles. And he's having a ball doing it."

Tried to post earlier, however it disappered into cyberspace

Rivet Hey! A storage idea!!

This thread began off-topic (I'd guess) but might have relevance to those who keep asking about throwing plastic sheet over their Grumman whatever-streams for the winter ( ). There are enough Texas contributors in this forum to go over to his l'il pea patch when this movie bombs and help him rip away the vinyl. Natcherally we want a report whether the clearcoat survived in good order -- then we'll be able to answer questions about shrink-wrapping for the winter.

Of course we'll be liable for picking up the bail when he finds out what we did and comes out of the shower to chase us -- nekkid down the streets of Austin. The fine for 2nd offense is purty stiff. Please contribute to Andy R's legal defense fund!!!
