Today, at ceremonies in Toronto and Montreal, one in English, the other in French, the winners of the 2006 Governor-Generalís Award for excellence in poetry will be announced.

Ken Babstockís AIRSTREAM LAND YACHT is one of the 5 finalists.

Donít rush out to buy the book if you think itís about trailering but it may be nice to have on an end table or at bedside.

Hereís an excerpt:

Then the belt of penury tightened
further
and whether from hunger
or a need to lash back
we started dreaming of weeks of
slack;

a hammock of days
nailed between trees
rooted in the old loam of obliga-
tion.

The names of God all sounded like Ďvacationí.

- from A Brochure by Ken Babstock ( Airstream Land Yacht)

Sergei,

Thanks for the excerpt. I often purchase a book by its cover or title and you just saved me a few bucks. I already have quite a few books in my "give away box" that are beyond my depth to totally comprehend.

Barry,

Yeah, I too wonder how many Googlers might end up at Amazon.com and then be surprised when the shipment comes!

I hate it when I do that. I read a lot but I buy a lot more books only to be disappointed that the title doesn't fit the context of the book. There's so few really outstanding books out about the exciting things that happen to people when they are out and about in their Airstreams, yet from what I read on the forum there's probably a couple of good books worth with some of our fellow members' joys/trials/tribulations in their travels. But I suppose everyone is either busy working or busy camping to write a book.
