A Christmas gift to my wife was the new autobiography: Jane Goodall: The woman who redefined man by Dale Peterson.

My wife told me about a section describing an expedition to Africa in the late '40s or early '50s where Goodall's troop wanted to observe elephants up close.

One suggestion was to dress up an AS Land Yacht as an elephant for camo.

Mmm... I can't imagine the herd would have thought the aluminum smell was quite right. Interesting post. Thanks!

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Babaar had taken a liking to the "aluminum elephant".

Reminds me of that old movie "Top Secret", where two of the bad guys are dressed up in a cow suit, and sneak out into this field to spy on some good guys. Only problem is a big ol' bull, that takes a liking to the "new heffer" in the herd. Kinda rough on the guys in the suit

OK, that was bad Will I redeem myself if I say I read Jane Goodall's book that she wrote? In the Shadow of Man I believe it was called. My wife met her, and our copy of the book is autographed. She never mentioned Airstreams though...

An offer for Goodall

Jim,

It seems that Ms. Goodall and her team were offered an Airstream to use in the above configuration. Though I think it was Leaky who rufused.

Cheers,

Perhaps this is where Avions came from? The timing is about right .

Well, I had to try at least.
