I signed up for the free on-line. However the page size is so small as to be unreadable on even a 17" high resolution monitor--and this is after I clicked on the full screen option. Any tips on how to actually read the pages?

The print size on my screen at home, is the same as the Forums.
Try another computer to see if maybe there might be a little glitch in yours.

what browser are you using? on the menu bar on top, one of the options should be "zoom". zoom "in" to get a larger image.

Works for me with Firefox 3.5.5

I had the same problem until I found that if you put your mouse on the page (in full screen option) you will get a magnifying glass with a + on it, and if you left click it, it will zoom in so you can read it. To get out of that, just click again.

OK, I must be dumb. I want to try out some of the above ideas. However, I don't even see a link where you can sign in. I see where you initially sign up for an account but not the sign in block. Could someone show me the link for that? Sorry, haha!
There's no sign-in required. Simply click here and then click "Winter 2009".
Then, when the magazine loads, click on any page to zoom in.
If you want to be notified when a new issue comes out, then you can subscribe for email notifications. That's free, too. (It sounds like you've already done that.)

To enlarge on a PC - hold down CTRL & + at the same time. Going back to the original scale, hold down CTRL & -. Experiment a little. Mine seems to like CTRL-SHIFT-+ to start out with and then doesn't need the shift after that.
