Are you referring to "Tricked Out Tailgaiting" with Bobby Flay? I think that program airs October 13 at 8PM on Food Network Television. Looks like a good one!

It's for sale! eBay item #160058553969. Just proves you can do almost anything with a budget. Note some wiggles and sore spots but nice execution of ideas. For those who are considering what to do with the interior end caps the upholstery looks like a great idea.
Beer tap is a nice addition too.

Food for thought!
Very cool rig- A bit too much $$$ for my liking, but still quite the AS.

Does anyone know who did the alterations on the unit? The seller states that the unit is not really towable because of the leaks where the side wall opens up. It would make a nice display setup for an Airstream dealer or something like that. What other uses would this have?

Clecogirl? A trailer for you at long last? You'll be able to attend rallies. And after you get the wrinkles out I might even make the pilgrimage to your table.
It looks like the big door doesn't have weatherstripping or a latch mechanism! What a deal -- a TV in the lavatory -- a lavatory that can't be used... Who says this is worth $30,000 if the equipment was as abused as that 50" plasma TV? But not towable means you'd be hard pressed to use it for vending at art fairs! How about a 50's themed dining center under a lean-to at a Six Flags somewhere?

Let's see $30,000 and it has the following exclusions:
There are a few things that must be noted:
· As part of the 2005 customization, the axle was moved. The trailer was used by Food Network as a stationary prop for that one program. The trailer, in its customized state, is not intended to be towed on the open road.
· The seals are not secure and therefore leakage potential has been determined.
· The lavatory does not work.
· The beds were removed to create the lounge area – there is no sleeping capacity.
· There are decals shown in the photos – the Food Network logos will be removed. The flame decals will be removed at buyer’s discretion.
· Trailer is currently located in a storage unit in Paterson, NJ and is registered in the state of New York. Buyer is responsible for all costs associated with moving the trailer to its final destination.
You can't tow it, sleep in it or go to the potty. The trailer leaks and will have large spots on the exterior where the decals once were. Maybe the price is a little high?

Oh but .... they do say it was restored. It still looks better than when cable TV's "While You Were Out" show butchered an Airstream back about mid-fall -- an option if this price is too high!

On Alton Brown's show "Good Eats," he had an episode called "Q". This was a BBQ show done completely on the set of his vintage 70's Airstream.

UG! Just spotted that on e-bay
Lessee $30K for a unit you can't tow, sleep in, or take a comfort stop in? Uh. No. My birth certificate says I was born at night... but not LAST night.
And what kind of tail droop will it get from that big heavy grill that comes out of the back door?
If I wanted to open a coffee kiosk in a local mall - maybe I'd pay $5k for it, otherwise - Oh Hell NO!
I'd be tempted to say what a waste of a perfectly good vintage unit, but lets face it, anything that keeps Airstreams in the public consciousness is good.

I think it's impossible to combine the two (food service and camper) and still keep any of the features of one with the other. But if you wanted to have an Airstream food service unit, there's one for sale in Seattle right now for 10k:
Quote:
Mobile Food Trailer—complete and ready to go. Start making money immediately.
1960, 20 foot airstream trailer converted to mobile hot food service cart. Complete with: 2-100 gallon propane tanks, grill, griddle, deep fryer and custom fire suppression hood system. Includes refrigerator, freezer, 3-basin sink, counter room and lots of small item accessories. Wired to run off external 240 volt electricity or an included 240 volt generator.
|
I think this one has been for sale for a while or it's for sale again, because I thought I saw something similar listed not too long ago. Hmmmm... Travelling around to arts fairs cooking in an Airstream sounds like a lot more fun than what I currently do for a living!
As for the Food TV unit, it looks like it would make a pretty cool stationary party central, but I don't know how the folks who buy it will get it there - flatbed I guess. I could see that being setup at some hotel somewhere by the pool. Seems like the price is way too high to me though...
