Don't be lead astray

Just saw an ad for the new Dodge Journey. Thought that I would check
it out. Has a great photo with Airstream Basecamp.
Checked a little further and found that the Journey's Towing Capacity-
Maximum(when Properly Equipped [lb] 1000

Funny thing Basecamp Specification 3250lb GVWR

Just thought that it was interesting.

I agree that that's too much trailer for that little car, but there was something quite interesting in the Dodge ad. It touts a new feature called Trailer Sway Control (TSC). The ad says that it applies appropriate braking to individual wheels to control sway.

About a year ago I had a conversation on this technology with David Tidmore out in Texas. He said that we may see the day in the near future that trailer sway could be completely controlled by brake applications to the individual wheels on both the TT and the TV. I find this an interesting concept that could have real world possibilities.

Electronic sway control is an idea that was tried in the early 70's. It never caught on very well for whatever reason. With new technology today, it's applications could be very beneficial and could possibly lower insurance premiums.
