All over the country?, someone's gott'a have a finished example they be camp'n in.

Hard to believe they not "lurk'n" 'round here.... a club you can't join, veeeery interesting.

I really don't see anything 'harmful' about this group of collectors, that wish to call themselves a 'club'...It would seem that all they are asking is that owners of 'silver' trailers for sale, give them a crack at making an offer before going public with an ad, etc - a reasonable request, IMHO...

As always, anyone selling a large value item should take precautions during the sale, not giving up the item before the payment is secured, etc., etc...We've all read the eBay horror stories about this kind of stuff...

BTW, I see a couple of 'completed' looking AS's on their home page...they're shiny looking, at any rate...and lest we forget, it can take years to 'complete' a restoration of these older rigs!

Just because the membership is closed doesn't mean it's not a club.

I do think their "What do I do next" page is a little scary. Don't want no registered sex offenders coming to look at MY trailer.

Doesnt look particularly nefarious to me. Can't say I buy into all of their logic, but so what? From the way the thing reads it sounds like some of the group unhappy with WBCCI and so forth. The way they put up the contact info is weird, using (at) in place of @ and (dot) in place of ..

On the other hand, it is strange that these guys aren't well known here. Anything AS that isnt on our collective radar here makes me suspicious.

Using (at) and (dot) is one method of keeping Spam Bots from copying one's email address... disguising your email addy makes it a bit harder to be copyed by these bots...however now that Lynn, in the post above has copied the 'public' data here in our forum, that (dot) type cover has been blown...I would think a 'link' to this data would have been sufficient, instead of copying it in an 'open' post...

I've heard that these Spam Scums can unleash software to comb forums and blogs to find email address' by the thousands and sell em' to vendors of those 'weird' ads that show up in your email in box!

Not to worry. Publically available info is publically available info. Spammers can get much, MUCH more info from WHOIS sources than from forums. (Note, too, that the registration email address is not the same as the address used in the website contact.)

Someone spent a lot of time creating this web site but went out of their way not to have any "LINKS", or easy to find contact information. This kind of flies in the face of logic or is just plain dumb.

It appears that the name of the administrator is a Latvian womans name, and the website has only been in existence for less than a year.
I think it could be a scam. Anyway, who out there thinks that they would get a better price for their unit by going to someone who fishes like this, rather than listing it on craigslist, or ebay. This is a business venture. They are looking for bargains in any condition. I would bet they ship them overseas or part them out, or find people to scam in other ways using this as a foot-in-the-door.
Does anyone here think that there could be an exclusive, nation-wide Airstream collectors club in existence for more than a week without someone here being in on it and bringing it to our attention?
I don't think so.

It could be it's just some people who restore and might also sell aluminum trailers and there's nothing nefarious about it. It's all speculation on our part.

OR

It's that Matthew McConaughey guy buying up every peice of aluminum his endless supply of money can buy - that's what I'd be doing if I had an endless supply (we all know it's addicting . . . and it's probably a good thing I DON'T have an endless supply)

I looked into this and the trust factor goes down on this one. For example, If you enter in the IP address directly - 66.219.29.210, you get taken to the Vintage Airstream Forums. These forums have only been set up in the last month or so. The site is hosted out of North Carolina at a company called Netriplex (that might be a clue).

For me, the real telling piece of information is a statement on the home page:

This person was operating for years before concerned people in the Airstream community brought his past to light, and had him kicked off eBay, and out of all but one public forum. The business ethic of this person was questionable on its own, but imagine the people who allowed this type criminal to come to their home without knowing who he really was? You totally avoid this situation by selling to the club.

I mention that because I only know of one person who ever made a big deal about this story - one person... And that story is about 5 years old now.

Well it seams the only "scam" here is that their web page traffic has spiked from all of us! LOL.... Bad PR is good PR... I think I saw Tiger in one of the Trailers he seams to look at home at his new res......
