Airstream Ranch Demolished

I was interested to see this today - Bates RV set this in place and then defended the installation several times in court.

A few years ago the dealership was sold. This week this landmark is being flattened.

bates airstreams

I will miss this site. whenever we pass it we see so many people stopped just in awe. too bad 'progress' will take precedence. can it be moved to the mother ship ?? yes I know it is too costly, but just a wish

This is not a horrible outcome. ASs need to be used and these coaches were long since lost to their intended purpose. Too bad the dealer did not plant a field of wild flowers and restore these coaches for families to enjoy. Pat

Yes, and there is apparently a new Airstream dealership coming to this location. That said, this image of this rig especially, bothered me. This 1957 (?) would have been of interest to restorers. Old parts are getting scarce...

Hi Janet,

Thanks for the heads-up. It's a sad day in my opinion.

RV One Superstores (d.b.a. Tampa RV) owns nearly 27 acres of land along I-4 just outside of Tampa. Approximately half of the land is currently paved/developed. There is quite a bit of property remaining for expansion. It's difficult for me to imagine how removing these trailers significantly increases the ability for the dealership to expand.

RV One has demolished an icon (billboard) they could have used as an advertising tool for many years to come. I suspect karma will have a way of dealing with this.

I don't think it's a "new" Airstream dealership coming to Tampa - I suspect it's an expansion of RV One Superstores (Tampa RV)

I could say in my humble opinion that the owner of that next RV place or if is going to be a car dealership didn't have a clue of what is the meaning of owning an Airstream.
